The FAG 30208 tapered roller bearing, measuring 40 x 80 x 19.75 mm, accommodates combined radial and axial loads in industrial drives.
The FAG 30208 tapered roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing in a standard design. With a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a width of 19.75 mm, this design is suitable for industrial shaft mountings subject to simultaneous radial and single-sided axial loads. Manufactured to standard tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1), the unit offers a balanced ratio of concentricity and fit. You will receive a complete tapered roller bearing, comprising an inner ring with a set of rollers and the corresponding outer ring.
Due to its design, this bearing transmits high radial forces and axial forces from a single direction. The tapered rollers and raceways effectively transfer combined loads. Typical applications include shaft mountings subject to combined loads in general mechanical engineering. As single-row tapered roller bearings, by their design, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, they are usually operated in pairs against a second bearing in an O or X arrangement.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the tapered rollers along the inner ring raceway and maintains a constant spacing between the rolling elements. This cage variant offers high mechanical strength and is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. As the inner and outer rings can be fitted separately, this design facilitates installation in housings and on shafts. During installation, the bearing must be aligned axially to set the clearance required for operation.
With a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a total width of 19.75 mm, the bearing complies with standardised metric key dimensions. These dimensions allow for direct replacement in suitable housing bores and on corresponding shaft seats.
Single-row tapered roller bearings are not designed to be self-retaining. The inner ring with its roller cage and the flangeless outer ring can be handled and fitted separately. This makes it easier to press them onto the shaft and fit them into the housing bore, particularly in machine designs where access is difficult.
This design absorbs high radial forces whilst simultaneously transmitting axial forces from one direction. For axial loads acting in opposite directions, a second tapered roller bearing is required, which is mounted in a mirror-image configuration to support the shaft in both directions without any play.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees. Within this range, the sheet steel cage and the bearing steel retain their dimensional stability. The actual operating temperature during continuous use also depends on the choice of lubricant and the ambient conditions.
The designations P0 and PN (comparable to ABEC 1) denote the standard tolerance class for rolling bearings. They define the permissible dimensional, geometric and running tolerances for standard industrial applications and ensure precise concentricity during operation.
Unlike radial ball bearings, the operating clearance for tapered roller bearings is not specified by the manufacturer. The bearing clearance, or preload, is only established during assembly by deliberately adjusting the inner or outer ring against the mating bearing. The correct adjustment determines the load-carrying capacity and smoothness of operation.
