V-belt Details

V-belts drive belt drives and have a trapezoidal cross-section. They take advantage of the fact that the friction of the belt flanks in a wedge-shaped groove is significantly higher than in the case of a flat surface. They are usually made endless and consist of rubber with a textile or steel wire insert. They can transmit higher torques than flat belts with the same space requirement. The forces acting on the bearings are considerably lower due to the higher friction. However, their efficiency is somewhat lower compared to a flat belt.

It is also possible to arrange several v-belts next to each other. They gradually expand during their use. Therefore, it is important that in drives with several belts running in parallel, they are all changed simultaneously.

The following four types of v-belts are mainly used:

• classic v-belts,
• narrow v-belts,
• raw-edge v-belts and
• shaped-toothed v-belts.

Classic v-belts are wrapped in a fabric layer and characterised by high operational reliability.

Narrow v-belts are also wrapped but have improved power transmission.

Raw-edge v-belts have advantages in terms of wear, running accuracy and friction locking.

Shaped-tooth v-belts are preferred for new drives because they have longer running times, lower energy consumption and higher power transmission.

V-belts are the best-known types of drive belts. For example, they are used in motor vehicles to drive the alternator, water pump or hydraulic pump for power steering. In addition, they are used in household washing machines where they turn the drum.

Because v-belts are relatively tall, the deflection causes internal compression and, therefore, heating. That is why they are also toothed to allow for smaller pulley diameters.

V-belt designation: Profile designation + length. For example, XPZ630. If you do not know the designation, please contact ekugellager.de customer service. We need either the outer or inner length of the old belt as a measurement.

You can find our v-belts via the navigation at the top or our search. Simply enter the exact belt designation. The first 3 letters of the belt type (for example, SPZ) are sufficient for an inventory list.

Same batch: If you order several v-belts of the same design, we ensure that the belts all come from the same batch. The batch number is printed on each belt.
