The FAG 1320 -K-M-C3 double-row self-aligning ball bearing compensates for misalignment thanks to its hollow-spherical outer ring raceway and measures 100 × 215 × 47 mm.
The 1320 -K-M-C3 self-aligning ball bearing is an open, double-row rolling bearing made from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6) for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to the shared spherical raceway in the outer ring, the two rows of balls automatically adjust to any shaft deflection. FAG manufactures this design with a tapered bore with a 1:12 taper, a robust solid brass cage and an increased radial clearance to tolerance class P0/PN.
This bearing is primarily used where shafts deflect under load or where misalignment occurs between the bearing housings. Typical applications include shaft mountings in general mechanical engineering where elastic deflections need to be compensated for. As this is an unsealed bearing, designers integrate the component directly into existing oil or grease lubrication systems. The permissible temperature range is between –30 and +150 degrees Celsius.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes the tapered bore, which is usually mounted directly onto cylindrical shafts using a clamping or withdrawal sleeve. When slid onto the tapered seat, the radial bearing clearance is measurably reduced. The C3 version comes with a slightly increased radial bearing clearance as standard. This reserve serves to compensate for operational heating and the reduction in clearance during the press-fit process. The brass cage guides the rolling elements.
Fitted with two rows of balls and a continuous hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring, the bearing automatically compensates for angular misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. This prevents unacceptable edge stresses and ensures stable running even when the shaft is misaligned.
The main dimensions are a bore diameter of 100 mm, an outside diameter of 215 mm and a total width of 47 mm. The component is made from case-hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and complies with tolerance class P0, or standard tolerance, in terms of its dimensional and running tolerances.
K denotes a tapered bore with a standard taper ratio of 1:12. This design allows for a positive-fit mounting on tapered shaft seats or, using a locking sleeve, on smooth cylindrical shafts.
The letter M stands for a solid brass cage that keeps the balls in both rows spaced apart. A brass cage can withstand high mechanical stresses and is suitable for applications involving vibrations or high angular accelerations.
The C3 designation indicates a larger radial clearance compared with the standard CN design. When the tapered inner ring is fitted onto the shaft, it expands, thereby reducing the operating clearance. The C3 bearing clearance compensates for this mounting effect and subsequent thermal expansion.
As an open bearing without seals, lubrication is provided externally via lubricating oil or grease within the housing structure. The lubricant must be suitable for the operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
