The FAG 1311 -K-TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing, with a 55 mm tapered bore and C3 clearance, provides targeted compensation for misalignment caused by shaft deflection.
The FAG 1311 -K-TVH-C3 double-row self-aligning ball bearing is designed for bearing arrangements where misalignment or shaft deflection occurs. Thanks to the common hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring, the rolling elements adjust flexibly in the event of misalignment without generating impermissible residual stresses. This rolling bearing has a bore diameter of 55 mm, an outer diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, the open bearing operates within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
Its use is particularly recommended in bearing arrangements involving flexible shafts or deflections in the supporting frame. Typical designs in general mechanical engineering include long shaft runs subject predominantly to radial loads, where misalignment of the housing must be reliably compensated for during operation. As the inner ring has two raceways and the outer ring is of the hollow-spherical type, the design automatically compensates for both static and dynamic angular misalignments during operation. As an open bearing, lubrication can be provided directly via the surrounding housing or a lubrication system.
The suffix ‘K’ indicates a tapered bore with a ratio of 1:12. This allows mounting on tapered shaft seats or, using suitable adapter sleeves, on cylindrical shafts, enabling the bearing clearance to be precisely adjusted. The C3 specification indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This additional clearance compensates for the reduction in clearance caused by the pressing-on of the inner ring and thermal expansion during operation. The dimensionally stable polyamide cage (TVH) guides the balls with low friction and ensures smooth running during continuous operation.
With an internal diameter of 55 mm at the bore, an external diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm, the bearing complies with standardised dimensions. It is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. The double row of balls ensures that the radial load is distributed evenly across the hollow spherical outer ring raceway.
The tapered bore, with a taper ratio of 1:12, is designed for mounting on tapered shaft seats or for installation on smooth cylindrical shafts using a clamping or withdrawal sleeve. When fitted axially, the bearing clearance is measurably reduced. This facilitates the adjustment of the required operating clearance as well as the subsequent non-destructive removal of the bearing unit.
The designation TVH refers to a polyamide cage that keeps the two rows of balls spaced apart. Polyamide is lightweight, dampens running noise and produces low friction at the contact surfaces. The cage is designed for the bearing’s permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
In the case of bearings with a tapered bore, the radial clearance is significantly reduced when the bearing is fitted onto the tapered seat or the clamping sleeve. The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased initial bearing clearance. This helps to ensure that, after the bearing has been tightened and as a result of operational heating, sufficient internal operating clearance remains to ensure smooth running.
As this bearing is supplied without integrated sealing washers, the lubricant reaches the rolling elements and raceways unimpeded. Lubrication is provided via the bearing housing, either with grease or oil. To protect the bearing from dirt and moisture, suitable external seals, such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals, must be fitted to the housing.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +120 degrees. This range is primarily limited by the polyamide cage (TVH) used and the roller bearing steel. Within this temperature range, the material and cage geometry retain their dimensional stability, provided that the selected housing lubricant is specified for the same thermal conditions.
