The FAG NJ217 -E-M1 single-row cylindrical roller bearing combines an 85 mm bore with a support bearing function and a brass cage for radial guidance.
The NJ217 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row, unshielded radial roller bearing designed for high radial forces. Thanks to the line contact of the cylindrical rollers, the component can withstand high radial loads. As an open rolling bearing, this model operates directly within the machine’s existing lubrication circuit. FAG manufactures this bearing in the standard tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) and with normal radial clearance.
The NJ design typically functions as a support bearing in shaft mountings. The outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is manufactured with a single flange and can be removed from one side. This enables the bearing to accommodate not only radial forces but also axial guidance forces from one direction. In the opposite direction, the design allows for axial displacement, which compensates for temperature-induced changes in the shaft’s length within the bearing arrangement. Typical applications include bearing arrangements with single-sided axial guidance and high radial loads.
The designation letter ‘M1’ indicates the version with a brass cage. Brass cages offer high strength under dynamic shock loads, severe vibrations or rapid changes in speed. The permissible temperature range extends from –30 to +150 degrees Celsius, ensuring that the cage retains its dimensional stability even when heated. As the outer ring is designed without a groove or lubrication bore, lubricant is supplied via the end faces of the bearing rings. To ensure proper operation, the open bearing requires a clean installation environment with a seal provided by the user.
A single-row cylindrical roller bearing of this type is primarily designed to support high radial loads. The line contact between the rollers and raceways gives the bearing assembly a high degree of rigidity. Its design as a support bearing also enables it to accommodate axial forces in one direction.
In the NJ design, the outer ring has two fixed flanges and the inner ring has a flange on one side. This allows the inner ring to be withdrawn from one side. This arrangement provides axial support for the shaft in one direction whilst permitting slight axial displacement in the opposite direction.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 85 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised main dimensions for cylindrical roller bearings of this size.
The brass cage, marked M1, guides the cylindrical rollers with precision and is characterised by its dimensional stability. Brass is a material that withstands vibrations, fluctuating accelerations and elevated operating temperatures.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +150 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the rings and the brass cage covers this range. The actual operating limit depends on the lubricant selected for the associated assembly.
Standard radial bearing clearance (bearing clearance class CN) refers to the standard internal clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways. This dimension is intended for standard fit designs and balanced operating temperatures on the shaft and housing.
