The SKF 6304/C3 deep groove ball bearing, with a 20 mm bore, 52 mm outer diameter and 15 mm width, offers increased radial clearance for thermally demanding drives.
The 6304 /C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing manufactured by SKF. This version has a bore of 20 mm, an outer diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6, this open bearing supports radial loads and also accommodates axial forces in both directions. A sturdy sheet steel cage maintains an even spacing between the rolling elements. As it does not feature integrated sealing washers, the design is particularly suitable for oil- or grease-lubricated environments with external sealing.
This single-row radial ball bearing is primarily used in rotating components where significant operating heat or tight fits occur. As the bearing is designed without abrasive sealing washers, it starts up with low friction and can be integrated directly into existing lubrication circuits. The permissible temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees Celsius allows operation under demanding thermal conditions in industrial bearing arrangements.
The suffix /C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance compensates for thermal expansion when the inner ring becomes warmer than the outer ring during operation. Furthermore, the clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed in the event of tight press fits on the shaft. The bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 and has a cylindrical outer ring without a flange or ring groove, which facilitates installation in standardised housing bores.
With a bore of 20 mm, an outside diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm, this version complies with the standard dimensions of the 63 series. The outer ring and inner ring are cylindrical in design and are suitable for standardised bearing seats in machinery and plant.
Bearing clearance class C3 offers greater radial clearance than standard bearings. In drives subject to high operating temperatures, the shaft and inner ring often expand more than the housing. The increased clearance ensures that the balls roll freely during operation without being subjected to excessive stress due to interference fits or temperature differences.
As the bearing does not have any integrated seals, a suitable lubricant must be applied before commissioning. You can lubricate the bearing via an oil bath, a circulating lubrication system or by manually filling it with grease. It is important to have an external sealing system in the housing to prevent lubricant loss and the ingress of dirt particles.
The roller bearing is made from 100Cr6 bearing steel with a sheet steel cage and is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Within this range, the bearing rings and balls retain their shape. When selecting a lubricant, the operating temperature should always be matched to the thermal properties of the grease or oil used.
A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements precisely along their raceway. The cage maintains an even spacing between the balls and prevents direct contact between the rolling elements. The sheet metal construction keeps the component lightweight and, in conjunction with the lubricant, facilitates the unimpeded flow of lubricant.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds internationally to the ABEC 1 classification. This represents the standard normal tolerance for industrial applications and meets the requirements for roundness, axial run-out and dimensional accuracy for typical shaft and housing tolerances.
