The FAG 608 -2RSR-C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 8x22x7 mm, a double-sided seal and C3 clearance, offers protection against contamination at elevated operating temperatures.
The 608 -2RSR-C3 deep groove ball bearing is a compact, single-row radial ball bearing for shafts with a diameter of 8 mm. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6 for the inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements, the design is primarily designed to accommodate radial loads as well as moderate axial forces. Thanks to the double-sided sliding seal, the bearing is suitable for dusty environments, whilst the integrated sheet steel cage guides the balls.
This miniature bearing is used where limited installation space meets demanding environmental conditions. Typical applications include compact electric motors, small appliances, conveyor rollers and precision mechanical drives. The component operates within a temperature range of -20 to +100 degrees Celsius. Thanks to the cylindrical outer ring without a flange or groove, the component can be fitted precisely into cylindrical housing bores.
The combination of a contact seal and increased bearing clearance meets specific requirements for continuous operation. The 2RSR sealing lips on both sides rest against the inner ring shoulders and shield the interior against particles and splash water. At the same time, the slightly increased C3 radial bearing clearance compensates for operational thermal expansion of the shaft and inner ring. This reduces the risk of mechanical stress when components develop thermal differences during operation.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 8 mm, an outside diameter of 22 mm and a width of 7 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which allows it to be fitted flush with the corresponding housing bores.
The abbreviation 2RSR stands for seals fitted on both sides. The seal lips make contact with the inner ring shoulder and shield the interior of the bearing against dust, dirt and moisture. The contact between the seal lips and the rotating inner ring results in a slightly higher rotational resistance compared with open bearing designs.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with standard clearance. This design prevents the rolling elements from seizing up when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. The increased bearing clearance accommodates the thermal expansion of the material during operation.
The permissible temperature range is from -20 to +100 degrees Celsius. This operating range is limited by the sliding seals and the lubricant inside the bearing. Within these limits, the seal material and the standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6 retain their mechanical properties during operation.
Inside the bearing, a sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the rolling elements. This cage design takes up little installation space, is characterised by its low weight and leaves sufficient volume for the lubricant within the bearing. For standard applications, this design requires no additional maintenance.
The bearing complies with the ‘Normal’ tolerance class, specified as P0/PN or ABEC 1. This classification defines the permissible dimensional, geometric and running accuracies for standard industrial applications in general mechanical engineering.
