The SKF 6324 M deep groove ball bearing, with a 120 mm bore and a brass cage, offers high stability for demanding industrial applications.
The 6324 M deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing from SKF designed for industrial bearing applications involving high loads. With key dimensions of 120 mm inside diameter, 260 mm outside diameter and 55 mm width, this design accommodates radial loads as well as axial forces in both directions. The rings and rolling elements are made of standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6. As an open bearing without an integrated seal, the unit can be connected directly to lubrication systems.
It is primarily used in heavy-duty industrial drives and power units with circulating lubrication. As the bearing is unsealed, lubricating oil or grease circulates unhindered over the raceways, rapidly dissipating any heat generated during operation. This requires a clean, protected housing environment that prevents the ingress of dirt particles. The permissible temperature range of the rolling bearing extends from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
The suffix ‘M’ indicates a solid brass cage. Brass cages guide the rolling elements in a dimensionally stable and low-noise manner, even under shock loads, vibrations or varying speeds. Furthermore, the material offers favourable emergency running properties in the event of short-term lubricant shortages. In combination with the standard radial bearing clearance and the standardised tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), this design ensures smooth running with standardised shaft and housing fits.
The main dimensions of this bearing are a bore diameter of 120 mm, an outside diameter of 260 mm and a width across flats of 55 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, meaning that the bearing fits flush into cylindrical housing bores.
The abbreviation ‘M’ stands for a solid brass cage. Brass is characterised by high mechanical strength and resistance to vibration, which stabilises the guidance of the rolling elements under demanding operating conditions.
The bearing has the standard radial clearance (standard clearance). This design is suitable for standard industrial applications with typical fit tolerances on the shaft and housing, where there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
Open roller bearings do not have integrated seals or cover plates. This allows the lubricant – such as gearbox oil or circulating grease – to flow freely through the bearing. With this design, protection against dirt and moisture must be provided by the surrounding machine housing.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the bearing rings, made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, and the thermal resistance of the brass cage are designed to suit this operating range.
The deep-groove ball bearing complies with tolerance class P0 (standard tolerance or PN), which corresponds to the US standard ABEC 1. This manufacturing precision meets the requirements of general mechanical engineering and heavy-duty industrial drives.
