The SKF 6311 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 55x120x29 mm, is primarily designed to accommodate radial loads in industrial bearing arrangements.
The SKF 6311 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for industrial applications that accommodate radial forces as well as moderate axial forces. The open bearing is made from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6) and is manufactured in the SKF Explorer design. With a bore of 55 mm, an outside diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm, the ball bearing fits into corresponding shaft designs in mechanical engineering.
The 6311 deep groove ball bearing is primarily used on rotating shafts subject to radial forces where low friction losses are required. Thanks to its open design, the component can be fitted directly into lubricated machine housings where a circulating lubricant system is in place.
The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly into the deep raceways of both rings. This makes this single-row radial ball bearing suitable for medium to high speeds whilst ensuring smooth running.
As an open component without integrated sealing washers, the bearing housing requires external sealing against particles and moisture. The open design allows for the free choice of lubricant and facilitates the supply of grease or lubricating oil during operation.
During assembly, the standard radial bearing clearance and the standard tolerance class (P0/PN or ABEC 1) must be taken into account. With a thermal operating range of –20 to +120 degrees, the component covers the typical temperature ranges found in industrial environments.
With a bore diameter of 55 mm, an outside diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm, the bearing complies with the main dimensions of this series. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which allows for direct installation in cylindrical housing bores.
SKF Explorer denotes deep-groove ball bearings with an optimised internal geometry and a refined surface finish on the raceways. This design is intended to reduce friction and minimise heat generation at the rolling contact. In combination with 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, this promotes an even distribution of load across the contact zone.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -20 to +120 degrees. Within these limits, both the roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. When selecting the external lubricant, care should be taken to ensure that it covers the same operating temperature range.
The term ‘normal radial bearing clearance’ refers to the internal radial clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is in its unassembled state. This standard value is designed to ensure low-friction operation after the bearing has been pressed onto the shaft and fitted into the housing, without any unacceptable stresses occurring.
The stamped sheet steel cage maintains a constant distance between the balls and prevents direct contact between the rotating rolling elements. The material combines low weight with sufficient strength to withstand mechanical stresses in a temperature range up to +120 degrees.
Manufactured to the ‘Normal’ tolerance class (P0/PN or ABEC 1), the bearing meets standard specifications for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy of the rings. This covers the standard requirements for precision shaft bearings in general mechanical engineering.
