The 6310-2Z deep groove ball bearing from SKF combines a 50 mm bore with cover plates on both sides for dirt-protected shaft mountings.
The 6310-2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) in the SKF Explorer design. The design primarily absorbs radial forces, guides the shaft and simultaneously accommodates axial loads in both directions. Thanks to the sealed design with two non-contacting cover plates, the lubricant remains inside whilst coarse particles are kept out. The component is suitable for applications with mounting dimensions of 50 mm (internal), 110 mm (external) and 27 mm (width).
This rolling bearing is used for combined radial and axial loads at medium to high speeds. The design accommodates mechanical loads on the 50 mm shaft. As the cover plates abut the inner ring without contact, no additional friction is generated. Installation is recommended in rotating systems where low heat generation, smooth running and basic protection against foreign particles are required.
The suffix -2Z denotes two sheet steel cover plates pressed in on both sides. Compared with sliding seals, the metal covers allow for high limit speeds, as there is no frictional wear on a sealing lip. Together with the sheet steel cage and the standard radial bearing clearance, this rolling bearing covers an operating temperature range from -20 to +120 degrees. The outer ring has no flange or groove and fits into standardised cylindrical housing bores of tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 50 mm, an external diameter of 110 mm and a width of 27 mm. These standard dimensions allow for a precise fit on shafts with a diameter of 50 mm and in cylindrical housing bores with a 110 mm seat.
The designation -2Z refers to cover plates made of profiled sheet metal fitted on both sides. These plates form a non-contact sealing gap with the inner ring. They protect the interior of the bearing from dust and coarse foreign particles without generating braking torques or frictional heat through mechanical friction.
At SKF, the ‘Explorer’ designation denotes a carefully optimised internal geometry of the raceways and a defined surface finish on the rolling elements made from 100Cr6 steel. This design reduces stress peaks in the material under load, promotes the formation of the lubricating film and ensures smooth running during operation.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. This range is limited by the material stability of the standard roller bearing steel and the grease applied at the factory behind the cover plates. For applications outside this temperature range, special versions with specific lubricants are required.
The model features the standard radial bearing clearance (often designated as CN). This standard operating clearance is designed for typical fit specifications and normal temperature differences between the shaft and housing. In the case of particularly tight press fits or significant operational heating, users may alternatively opt for bearings with increased C3 clearance.
No, deep-groove ball bearings with cover plates on both sides (-2Z) are already filled with grease at the factory. The firmly pressed-in sheet metal plates keep the lubricant inside the bearing. The component is designed for operation without the need for relubrication and should not be opened or flushed out during use.
