The SKF 6216/C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing, with an inner diameter of 80 mm and an outer diameter of 140 mm, offers proven running characteristics at elevated operating temperatures.
The 6216/C3 deep groove ball bearing is an open radial rolling bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, designed for combined radial and axial loads. As it is designed without integrated sealing washers, this ball bearing is suitable for designs featuring external sealing and where lubrication is supplied via a centralised lubrication system or an oil bath. The tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) ensures a precise fit in standardised bearing seats.
This single-row rolling bearing primarily withstands radial forces, but also supports shafts in both axial directions. Typical applications include bearing arrangements subject to combined loads in general mechanical engineering. Thanks to the sheet steel cage and the absence of contact seals, the rolling elements move with low rotational resistance. This characteristic is advantageous for applications involving higher speeds where lubrication is provided by oil or targeted grease relubrication.
The suffix C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the balls and raceways is required when significant temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. Tight fits on the shaft also expand the inner ring, thereby reducing the internal clearance. The C3 classification helps to prevent components from becoming stressed and supports the permissible temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
With an internal diameter of 80 mm, an external diameter of 140 mm and a width of 26 mm, the ball bearing has standardised dimensions. It is a single-row bearing with a cylindrical bore and no flange or groove on the outer ring. The 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel ensures high dimensional stability of the components.
The designation C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. In its initial state, the bearing has greater clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways. This compensates for thermal expansion caused by operating heat, as well as any reduction in bearing clearance due to tight fits, thereby preventing seizing during operation.
As this open bearing is designed without sealing washers, the lubricant is supplied via the surrounding system. It can be used with either grease or lubricating oil. To prevent the escape of lubricant and the ingress of dirt particles, a suitable external seal must be fitted to the housing.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The built-in sheet steel cage and the roller bearing steel are designed to withstand these temperatures. When selecting the lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that the grease or lubricating oil is approved for the relevant operating temperature within this range.
The rolling elements are guided by a robust sheet-steel cage, which maintains an even spacing between the balls. Sheet-steel versions offer high strength combined with low weight and are characterised by good resistance to common lubricants used in industrial applications.
