The SKF 6207 N single-row deep-groove ball bearing with a ring groove in the outer ring (35x72x17 mm) enables space-saving axial fixation within the housing.
The SKF 6207 N deep groove ball bearing is made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) and is designed as a single-row bearing. With a bore of 35 mm, an outer diameter of 72 mm and a width of 17 mm, the design primarily accommodates radial loads and axial forces in both directions. The open design, without sealing washers, allows for direct lubrication via the machine’s lubrication circuit. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements at operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
This bearing design is particularly suitable for applications where the structure has limited axial installation space and a simple housing design is required. As it is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1), the bearing is suitable for standardised shafts and housing bores in general mechanical engineering. The open design offers functional advantages in enclosed gearbox systems, where external seals prevent the ingress of contaminants and allow lubricating oil to flow unhindered through the rolling space.
The suffix ‘N’ indicates a ring groove on the outer ring of the bearing. This groove is designed to accommodate a retaining ring with a positive fit, thereby locking the bearing axially in the housing. There is no need for complex housing shoulders or separate mounting covers, which reduces the manufacturing costs of the housing and saves axial installation space. The integrated standard radial bearing clearance is matched to standard shaft and housing fits to compensate for thermal expansion during operation with minimal friction.
With an internal diameter of 35 mm, an external diameter of 72 mm and a width of 17 mm, the bearing complies with standard metric dimensions. The outer ring features a ring groove designed to allow axial fixation within the housing by means of a retaining ring.
The designator ‘N’ indicates a ring groove in the outer ring. A retaining ring engages with this groove, holding the rolling bearing in place axially within the housing. This eliminates the need for housing shoulders or separate retaining flanges, saving installation space and simplifying housing machining.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The materials, comprising standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and sheet steel, enable this thermal resistance whilst eliminating the need for elastomeric seals. The lubricant selected must be suitable for the respective operating temperature.
The design without integrated sealing washers minimises rotational resistance, as there are no sealing lips rubbing against the rings. The bearing can be lubricated directly via the machine system and requires external housing seals to protect against dirt particles.
In this design, the standard radial bearing clearance ensures the correct operating clearance under normal fit conditions between the shaft and housing. When the material expands due to operational heat, this occurs without causing any unacceptable stresses in the bearing.
The roller bearing is specified in accordance with tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1). This standard sets limit values for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy, and meets the usual industrial requirements in mechanical engineering.
