The 608-2Z deep-groove ball bearing from FAG Wälzlager is a compact miniature roller bearing with an 8 mm bore, a 22 mm outer diameter and cover plates on both sides.
The 608-2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing, manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). This component from FAG Wälzlager primarily absorbs radial forces, supports shafts with low friction and, thanks to its compact dimensions of 8 × 22 × 7 mm, is suitable for space-saving designs. Both the rings and the rolling elements are made from 100Cr6 bearing steel for high dimensional stability under load.
Typical applications for this miniature bearing are found where rotating shafts are mounted in confined spaces. Such roller bearings are primarily used in compact drives and precision mechanical assemblies. In addition to high speeds, the design accommodates moderate radial forces as well as axial forces in both directions. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly in the raceway and ensures low-vibration operation at varying speeds.
The designation -2Z indicates non-contact gap seals made of sheet steel fitted on both sides. These cover plates protect the interior of the bearing from coarse dirt particles and foreign bodies without generating additional friction or heat. This makes the variant particularly suitable for applications involving higher speeds within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. Lubricants remain protected within the bearing chamber, whilst the normal radial bearing clearance ensures a balanced operating clearance for standard fits.
This miniature roller bearing has an internal bore of 8 mm, an external diameter of 22 mm and a total width of 7 mm. Thanks to these standardised dimensions, the bearing can be quickly fitted into suitable housing bores and onto corresponding shaft seats without the need for any adjustments to the design dimensions.
The designation -2Z refers to cover plates made of pressed sheet steel fitted on both sides. These plates form a non-contact sealing gap with the inner ring. They keep coarse dust and particles out of the raceway system; however, unlike sliding rubber seals, they do not generate any additional frictional torque on the shaft.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage and metal covers retain their strength and dimensional stability for industrial use within these temperature limits.
Normal bearing clearance (often referred to as CN) describes the standard internal clearance between the balls and raceways when the bearing is in its unassembled state. This design is intended for standard transition or sliding seats, where no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings require an increased operating clearance.
Standard roller bearing steel of grade 100Cr6 is used as the material. This case-hardened chromium steel is characterised by high compressive strength, a uniform microstructure and high wear resistance under rolling contact, which significantly enhances fatigue strength under both constant and alternating loads.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0, or standard tolerance (PN), which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification in international terminology. This manufacturing accuracy meets the standard precision requirements in general mechanical engineering and drive technology in a cost-effective and reliable manner.
