The 6316/C3 deep-groove ball bearing from SKF Rolling Bearings, with dimensions of 80 × 170 × 39 mm and increased bearing clearance, is designed for radial loads.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6316/C3 primarily supports radial loads whilst also guiding shafts in the axial direction. Thanks to its open design without integrated sealing washers, the bearing is suitable for installations with an external lubrication system. A sheet steel cage is used. The rings and rolling elements are made of standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, which is designed for the permissible temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees.
Design engineers use this size in industrial drives and rotating assemblies with solid 80 mm shafts. The open design allows for lubrication via the surrounding system, for example through an existing oil bath or a circulating grease lubrication system. As the bearing has neither a flange nor a ring groove on the outer ring, the 170 mm outer ring can be slid directly into cylindrical housing bores.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways compensates for dimensional changes when tight fits on the shaft or housing cause the inner ring to expand. Similarly, the increased bearing clearance helps to minimise stress on the bearing should temperature differences arise between the shaft and the housing during operation. The tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 defines the dimensional accuracy required by the standard for industrial applications.
The main dimensions are 80 mm bore diameter, 170 mm outer diameter and 39 mm width. The outer ring is cylindrical in shape, with no flange or groove. These dimensions comply with the specifications for single-row radial deep-groove ball bearings.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This ensures that sufficient clearance remains in the bearing following press-fitting with a tight fit, as well as during operation-induced heating. This serves to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed due to thermal expansion.
Open bearings do not have integrated sealing washers. Lubrication is provided by the surrounding machine environment, for example by lubricating oil or by manually applying grease prior to commissioning. The lubricant should be suitable for the operating temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees.
The inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements are made from 100Cr6 roller bearing steel. This material offers high hardness and dimensional stability. The balls are guided by a cage made from pressed sheet steel.
The component complies with the standard tolerance class P0 (also referred to as PN) or ABEC 1. This accuracy class is intended for standard applications in mechanical engineering and for industrial drive trains.
