The SKF 6036 M/C3 deep groove ball bearing, with a 180 mm bore, brass cage and C3 clearance, offers a heavy-duty solution for large shaft designs.
The 6036 M/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing for heavy-duty industrial applications, with a bore of 180 mm, an outer diameter of 280 mm and a width of 46 mm. Designed as an open bearing, this version primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with rolling elements made from the same material, the design operates within a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees. The cylindrical outer ring has neither a flange nor a ring groove.
Large industrial drives and machines with large shaft diameters constitute the main area of application for this bearing. Thanks to its solid construction, this design is suitable for applications involving predominantly radial forces. As the component is open, it can be integrated directly into existing lubrication circuits using oil or grease.
At the same time, the design allows for external sealing via the respective housing to protect the bearing interior from contamination. Design engineers appreciate the standardised tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) for reliable fit accuracy during shaft assembly.
This variant features a solid brass cage and a slightly increased radial clearance of C3. The cage guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration and remains mechanically stable under high accelerations and thermal loads. The C3 radial clearance ensures sufficient operating clearance remains if the shaft heats up during operation or if tight fits cause the inner ring to expand.
Before installation, check whether the thermal expansion in your application requires this increased radial clearance. Due to its open design, the single-row bearing requires a reliable supply of lubricant to prevent wear between the rolling elements and raceways during operation.
This roller bearing has an inner diameter of 180 mm, an outer diameter of 280 mm and a width of 46 mm. With these dimensions, the single-row bearing is suitable for heavy-duty large shafts in mechanical and plant engineering. The outer ring and inner ring have cylindrical running surfaces without a flange or groove.
The letter M denotes a solid brass cage which guides the rolling elements precisely and withstands mechanical stresses. The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard clearance. This design prevents the bearing from seizing up should thermal effects or tight fits cause the rings to expand.
The permissible temperature range is from -20 to +150 degrees. Both the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the brass cage are designed for this range. In the case of open bearings, it is primarily the chosen lubricant – grease or oil – that determines the upper and lower operating limits.
As this bearing is supplied without integrated sealing washers, lubrication is carried out externally via the housing area using grease or circulating lubricating oil. Users must protect the bearing system from ingress of dirt and moisture using housing seals, such as shaft seals, to prevent premature wear of the rolling elements.
Manufacturing is carried out to tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds internationally to the ABEC 1 standard. This standard tolerance is sufficient for the vast majority of industrial machinery applications and ensures predictable fit conditions when mounting on the cylindrical shaft and in the housing seat.
Brass cages offer greater strength when subjected to severe vibrations, fluctuating speeds and thermal variations. Furthermore, brass has good run-on properties, which reduce friction and wear on the rolling elements. This cage variant is therefore a robust choice for demanding industrial drives with heavy loads.
