The SKF 6010 deep groove ball bearing is an open rolling bearing measuring 50x80x16 mm and offering increased precision in accordance with tolerance class P6.
The SKF 6010 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel for combined loads. As an open radial bearing without an integrated seal, this component operates with low frictional resistance, which facilitates high rotational speeds. The SKF Explorer performance class version combines high-quality material with an optimised surface finish. With key dimensions of 50 mm inner diameter, 80 mm outer diameter and 16 mm width, it is primarily designed to support radial forces and also guides the shaft in both axial directions.
This radial bearing is primarily used where an external lubricant supply and housing seal are in place. Typical applications include rotating industrial machinery with an external lubrication circuit and shaft diameters of 50 mm. As the component has an open design, the lubricating oil or grease circulating in the system reaches the rolling elements directly. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly and retains its dimensional stability within the permissible temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees.
Tolerance class P6, comparable to ABEC 3, defines reduced dimensional and running tolerances compared to the standard. The bearing exhibits lower runout deviations on the inner and outer rings, which reduces vibrations during operation and promotes smooth running. In combination with the standard radial bearing clearance, this variant is particularly suitable for applications where precise shaft guidance is required. During design, care must be taken to ensure that the surrounding bearing seats on the shaft and housing are adapted to this higher manufacturing precision.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 50 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a width of 16 mm. These standardised key dimensions define the installation space required on the shaft and in the housing bore. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.
Open roller bearings do not use ablative sealing discs or cover plates, which means the bearing has a particularly low friction torque. This makes this design suitable for higher speeds than sealed variants. However, the bearing requires a clean installation environment and must be lubricated via the housing system, for example by means of an oil bath or recirculating lubrication.
Tolerance class P6 corresponds to the ABEC 3 classification and denotes tighter manufacturing tolerances than the conventional standard tolerance. This tighter fit accuracy relates to the roundness, flatness and concentricity of the raceways. Applications with increased requirements for low noise and guiding accuracy benefit from this bearing’s reduced tendency to vibrate.
The permissible operating range for this model is from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The built-in sheet steel cage and the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel remain dimensionally stable within this range. When determining the operating temperature, the thermal stability of the externally supplied lubricant must also be taken into account.
The Explorer design denotes a performance class for rolling bearings developed by SKF. It is based on a particularly high-purity bearing steel, precise internal geometry and specially machined contact surfaces between the balls and the raceway. These design features reduce stress peaks in the material and contribute to a longer calculated service life in operation.
The normal radial bearing clearance describes the internal radial clearance between the balls and the raceways in the unmounted, as-manufactured state. It is designed for standard fits and standard operating temperatures. When the bearing is correctly pressed onto the shaft, this operating clearance is reduced, ensuring that the bearing maintains a defined operating clearance during operation without excessive stress.
