The SKF 6307 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 35x80x21 mm, is an open design suitable for high speeds under combined radial and axial loads.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6307 primarily accommodates radial forces and also guides the shaft in both axial directions. This SKF design belongs to the Explorer performance class. The inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements are made of case-hardened standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). As the bearing is of open design and has no abiding sealing rings, the lubricant from the surrounding structure reaches the raceways unhindered.
The open version of the bearing is used in designs where the housing is already externally sealed and lubricants such as oil or grease can circulate freely. Without sealing washers, there are no additional friction losses, meaning the rolling bearing is designed for high speeds. With a bore of 35 mm and an outside diameter of 80 mm, the design accommodates combined forces in compact installation spaces, whilst the open construction allows for continuous relubrication during operation.
The sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the rolling elements and helps to minimise heat build-up. The standard radial bearing clearance is optimised for common fit conditions and a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, the bearing complies with standard specifications for dimensional accuracy and concentricity. The cylindrical outer ring, without a groove or flange, also allows for flush mounting in smooth housing bores.
The bearing has a bore of 35 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 21 mm. These standardised key dimensions enable it to be fitted precisely onto shafts and into cylindrical housings in common machine designs.
An open design has no integrated sealing or cover rings. This means there is no additional friction from the seals, which is conducive to high speeds. The bearing is suitable for applications with external sealing, where lubrication is provided via an oil bath or centralised lubrication systems.
Normal radial bearing clearance refers to the standard clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. It compensates for operational thermal expansion in conventional shaft and housing fits without the rolling elements becoming jammed.
The bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. This range is made possible by the use of 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and a steel sheet cage, but requires the use of a temperature-stable lubricant in the application.
As a radial roller bearing, this design primarily absorbs radial forces acting perpendicular to the shaft. Owing to its deep raceways, the single-row bearing also supports axial forces in both directions.
Tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1 defines the standard dimensional and running accuracy for industrial bearings. It fully meets the requirements of general mechanical engineering with regard to concentricity and dimensional accuracy.
