The FAG NJ2238 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing combines a 190 mm bore with a brass cage and serves as a single-row support bearing for heavy radial loads.
The FAG NJ2238 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is an open, single-row roller bearing designed for demanding industrial drives and heavy-duty machinery. With main dimensions of 190 × 340 × 92 mm, this roller bearing primarily withstands high radial forces. As an NJ design, the component features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. Consequently, the design provides axial support for the shaft in one direction, whilst the opposite side allows for axial movement. The solid brass cage guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration.
Design engineers primarily use this large bearing in general mechanical engineering and in heavy-duty gearboxes. Its support function proves useful wherever, in addition to high radial forces, unilateral guiding forces in the axial direction occur. As the inner ring can be removed from one side, separate assembly of the shaft and housing is straightforward. The component is particularly suitable for rigid mountings that rely on guided shafts.
The brass cage, identified by the designation M1, ensures the mechanical stability of the roller guidance. The solid brass cage is suitable for operating conditions involving shock loads, rapid speed changes and vibrations. As the bearing is of open design and the outer ring has no lubrication bore, the lubricant is supplied directly through the housing. The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 190 mm, an outside diameter of 340 mm and a width of 92 mm. Thanks to its wide design, the roller bearing offers an increased contact area for the rolling elements, which enables it to withstand high radial forces in heavy-duty gearboxes and bearing arrangements.
An NJ-type cylindrical roller bearing has two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This enables the bearing to withstand high radial forces and also guides the shaft axially in one direction. In the opposite direction, this design allows for axial displacement, thereby compensating for changes in the shaft’s length due to thermal expansion.
The suffix M1 denotes a solid brass cage. Brass cages are characterised by their strength and vibration-damping properties. They are suitable for demanding operating conditions involving vibrations or shocks, such as those that may occur in industrial gearboxes and heavy-duty drives.
As this cylindrical roller bearing is of an open design and the outer ring has no groove or lubrication bore, the housing must be fitted with suitable lubrication channels and seals. The bearing can be lubricated with either grease or oil. The open design facilitates flushing during lubricant changes and allows for visual inspection of the rolling elements.
The roller bearing is specified for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. When designing the bearing arrangement, care must be taken to ensure that the selected lubricant remains effective within this range. At operating temperatures near the upper limit, any changes in bearing clearance due to thermal expansion of the components must also be taken into account.
This product has standard radial bearing clearance (CN). This standard bearing clearance is designed for typical fit conditions and moderate operating temperatures. It helps to ensure that, after the inner ring has been pressed onto the shaft and the outer ring has been fitted into the housing, sufficient operating clearance remains to ensure low-friction operation.
