Cylindrical Roller Bearings FAG NJ316 -E-M1

The FAG NJ316 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing combines a high radial load capacity with single-sided axial guidance, with main dimensions of 80 x 170 x 39 mm.

The NJ316 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing for industrial applications. Thanks to the line contact between the cylindrical rollers and the raceways, this design can withstand heavy radial loads. This open roller bearing has a standard radial clearance and a tolerance class of P0/PN (ABEC 1). The version with a brass cage is designed for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +150 degrees Celsius.

What is the NJ316 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing suitable for in operation?

This single-row cylindrical roller bearing is primarily used to accommodate high radial loads whilst simultaneously providing one-way axial guidance. In the NJ design, the outer ring has two solid flanges, whilst the inner ring has one solid flange. This enables the bearing to function as a support bearing. It absorbs axial forces in one direction and allows axial displacement in the opposite direction to compensate for thermal length changes in the shaft.

What are the features of the brass cage in this NJ design?

The brass cage guides the rolling elements and is characterised by high mechanical strength. Brass is a material that withstands vibrations and acceleration forces during operation. As the inner ring can be removed from one side, the bearing can be fitted separately. Because the outer ring is designed without a groove or lubrication bore, the lubricant is supplied via the housing design of the bearing mounting.

What are the characteristics of the NJ316 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing as a support bearing?

The NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This enables the bearing to absorb axial forces from one direction, whilst compensating for axial displacement of the shaft in the opposite direction. This design prevents stress build-up in the bearing seat due to thermal expansion.

What are the dimensions of the roller bearing?

The bearing has a bore diameter of 80 mm, an outside diameter of 170 mm and a width across flats of 39 mm. These standardised key dimensions enable precise fitting onto corresponding shafts and into suitable housing bores in accordance with tolerance class P0/PN.

What are the characteristics of the brass cage fitted?

The brass cage maintains the rollers at a defined distance and offers high resistance to vibrations and dynamic mass forces. The material retains its dimensional stability even under varying rotational speed loads and ensures smooth operation across the entire temperature range from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.

How is this open bearing lubricated?

As this open bearing is manufactured without integrated seals, the bearing seat must be protected by external sealing elements provided by the surrounding structure. The outer ring has neither a groove nor a lubrication bore, which is why the lubricant is supplied from the side via the bearing housing.

What does the specification for the standard radial bearing clearance mean?

‘Normal radial bearing clearance’ refers to the factory-set radial clearance within the standard range for cylindrical roller bearings of this size. This design is tailored to standard fit selections and normal operating temperatures, ensuring that, once fitted, the bearing rotates smoothly without the rollers becoming unduly jammed.

Why can the inner ring be removed from one side only?

The removable inner ring makes it considerably easier to fit the bearing components. The inner and outer rings can be fitted separately onto the shaft and housing. When the assemblies are joined, the inner ring slides smoothly into the pre-assembled roller cage thanks to its single-flange design.
