The FAG NJ224 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing (120x215x40 mm) withstands high radial loads and functions as a support bearing with axial displacement.
The NJ224 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing from FAG designed for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to the modified line contact of the cylindrical rollers, this design can withstand significantly higher radial forces than point-contact ball bearings. This version has a bore of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 40 mm. As an open bearing, the component can be specifically integrated into existing oil or grease lubrication systems.
This rolling bearing is primarily used for high radial loads and unilateral axial forces. As an NJ design, the bearing has two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This allows it to function as a support bearing: it guides the shaft in one axial direction whilst permitting axial displacement in the opposite direction. This compensates for thermal expansion of the shaft within the housing without generating stress.
The designation TVP2 indicates a polyamide cage that guides the cylindrical rollers. The material operates quietly and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The increased bearing clearance class C3 provides additional radial clearance in the bearing. This feature compensates for thermal expansion caused by high operating temperatures or tight fit oversizes on the shaft and housing, ensuring that the rolling elements always roll freely without jamming.
The NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This enables the bearing to accommodate unilateral axial loads in addition to high radial forces. The inner ring can be pulled off on one side, which facilitates assembly and compensates for axial thermal expansion of the shaft.
This cylindrical roller bearing has an inner diameter of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a total width of 40 mm. The manufacturing accuracy corresponds to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. The solid outer ring has a smooth finish, i.e. without a circumferential lubrication groove or bores.
The designation C3 indicates an increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This means that, prior to installation, the rolling elements have a measurably greater amount of clearance between the raceways. This design is recommended where temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings, or where tight fits reduce the bearing clearance after press-fitting.
The letter suffix TVP2 denotes a polyamide cage. This material reduces the cage’s weight, minimises friction losses and dampens operating noise. The component is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius and performs reliably under both steady and fluctuating rotational movements.
As an open bearing, the product does not have any integrated sealing washers. This design allows the user to choose the lubricant freely via the housing design, for example through oil circulation lubrication or external relubrication with grease. In such assemblies, a seal in the housing covers protects against the ingress of dirt particles and moisture.
Single-row cylindrical roller bearings of this type are of a separable design. The inner ring can be separated from the roller-cage assembly of the outer ring for separate installation. This makes it easier to press the inner ring onto the shaft and simplifies subsequent inspection and maintenance work within the machine.
