The FAG NJ2224 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, with dimensions of 120 × 215 × 58 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity and axial guidance in one direction.
The NJ2224 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing with a 120 mm bore, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 58 mm. This FAG design primarily withstands very high radial loads and, thanks to the NJ design, provides axial guidance in one direction. The open design without an integrated seal allows the bearing to be integrated directly into an existing lubrication system. The factory-set increased clearance (C3) ensures reliable operation even under conditions of increased heat generation.
This single-row cylindrical roller bearing is primarily used in mechanical bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces. As a support bearing, the NJ design absorbs not only the main load but also unilateral axial forces, whilst allowing axial displacement in the opposite direction. This facilitates the compensation of shaft thermal expansion. The solid brass cage also performs well under demanding operating conditions involving vibrations or fluctuating speeds.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the rollers and raceways effectively compensates for thermal expansion at operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +150 degrees, without causing the bearing to become stressed. The M1 brass cage guides the cylindrical rollers precisely and offers high strength compared to standard sheet metal cages. As the inner ring can be removed from one side, assembly onto the shaft and housing can be carried out separately.
The NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This enables the bearing to act as a support bearing: it absorbs high radial forces and also transmits axial guidance forces from one direction. In the opposite axial direction, the design allows the shaft to move freely.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 120 mm, an outside diameter of 215 mm and a total width of 58 mm. These standardised key dimensions enable a precise fit when installed in housings and on shafts designed for this series. The outer ring and inner ring are designed without lubrication holes.
Bearing clearance class C3 means that the radial bearing clearance when the bearing is unloaded is greater than the standard bearing clearance. This additional clearance prevents the rollers from seizing up if temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation, or if tight fits cause the inner ring to expand.
A solid brass cage, such as the M1 version, is characterised by high stability and wear resistance. It guides the roller elements smoothly and reliably, even under severe vibrations, varying speeds or shock loads. Brass also possesses favourable emergency running properties, which contributes to the operational reliability of the entire bearing assembly.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures between -30 and +150 degrees. Within this range, the bearing rings, rollers and brass cage retain their dimensional stability. To ensure trouble-free operation, it is crucial to select a lubricant that is suited to this temperature range and the ambient conditions.
As the bearing has no integrated seals, sealing is achieved via the surrounding housing structure. Shaft seals, labyrinth seals or housing covers protect the interior from the ingress of dust and moisture. At the same time, the external seal retains the lubricant on the moving rolling elements.
