The NU314 -E-XL-M1A-C3 cylindrical roller bearing from FAG, with a 70 mm bore and a solid brass cage, provides a heavy-duty support for purely radial forces.
The NU314 -E-XL-M1A-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing manufactured by FAG for demanding industrial applications. As an open support bearing, this component absorbs radial loads and compensates for axial length changes in the shaft directly within the bearing. Thanks to its standardised key dimensions – a 70 mm bore, 150 mm outer diameter and 35 mm width – the roller bearing fits precisely into standardised housing designs.
This design is used in bearing arrangements where thermally induced length changes in rotating shafts must be compensated for without constraint. In the NU version, the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is flangeless and can be removed from both sides. This ability to dismantle the bearing significantly facilitates the separate assembly of both bearing rings during the design and maintenance of shaft bearings.
The solid brass cage, which is mounted on the outer ring and designated by the suffix M1A, is characterised by high strength under vibration or impact loads. The slightly increased radial clearance (C3) helps to ensure that sufficient operating clearance is maintained even under operational heating and tight fits. The open bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees and is lubricated via the surrounding housing system.
The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from either side. The bearing acts purely as a support bearing, compensating for axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing without causing any additional internal stresses within the bearing.
This single-row roller bearing has an inner diameter of 70 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 35 mm. The dimensional and running tolerances comply with tolerance class P0/PN and ABEC 1 respectively. It has neither a groove nor lubrication holes in the outer ring.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard clearance. This design prevents the rollers from seizing up when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings, or when tight fits reduce the radial clearance after installation.
The suffix M1A denotes a solid brass cage which is guided along the outer ring. This guidance provides the rolling element set with a high degree of stability in the face of severe vibrations or rapid accelerations, such as those encountered in demanding industrial drives.
This open cylindrical roller bearing has a permissible temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. As it has no integrated sliding seals, its actual operating range is largely determined by the externally supplied lubricant and the environmental sealing.
The roller bearing is designed without its own sealing washers. Sealing against the ingress of dirt and the loss of lubricant must therefore be provided by the surrounding housing structure, for example by means of external shaft seals or labyrinth seals.
