The FAG NU2318 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row non-locating bearing with a 90 mm bore, designed for high radial loads.
As a single-row roller bearing, the FAG NU2318 -E-XL-TVP2-C3 cylindrical roller bearing can accommodate very heavy radial loads. Thanks to the cylindrical rolling elements, the design provides line contact, which enables high radial stiffness compared to ball bearings. The NU design functions purely as a non-locating bearing: two fixed flanges on the outer ring guide the roller set, whilst the flangeless inner ring remains removable from both sides. This allows for axial displacement of the shaft directly within the bearing.
This design is used in bearing arrangements where high radial forces are present and thermally induced changes in the shaft’s length must be compensated for. Thanks to the inner ring, which can be removed from both sides, the bearing compensates for such expansion with low friction internally. As this is an open bearing without a seal, the bearing assembly is lubricated externally with oil or grease and protected from contamination by the housing.
The bearing features a polyamide cage, which ensures quiet operation and reduces the weight of the rolling element assembly. The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming stressed when temperature differences occur between the shaft and the housing under operating conditions, or when tight fits are selected. The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 190 mm and a width of 64 mm. The outer ring is designed without a lubrication groove or bore.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges between which the rollers are guided. The inner ring has no flanges and can be removed from either side. As a result, the unit acts purely as a non-locating bearing, which compensates for changes in the shaft’s length without any constraint.
Bearing clearance class C3 denotes a radially increased bearing clearance compared with the standard tolerance CN. It compensates for thermal expansion at operating temperature and for any reduction in bearing clearance caused by tight fits. This facilitates the free rotation of the rollers under variable operating conditions.
The suffix TVP2 denotes a polyamide cage. This material is characterised by its low density and elastic damping properties. It operates quietly within a temperature range of between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0, which corresponds to the standard class PN or ABEC 1. This precision class defines the dimensional and concentricity tolerances for use in general mechanical and plant engineering.
As the bearing is designed as an open bearing without a seal, it requires external lubrication with grease or lubricating oil. The lubricant is supplied via the surrounding housing structure, which also provides a seal against dust and moisture.
