The SKF NJ224 ECJ cylindrical roller bearing, with a 120 mm bore, sheet steel cage and support bearing design, offers high radial load-carrying capacity with axial guidance in one direction.
The NJ224 ECJ cylindrical roller bearing from SKF is a single-row roller bearing with an optimised internal design for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 40 mm, this open bearing is primarily designed to accommodate high radial loads. Thanks to its standard radial clearance and sheet steel cage, this design is suitable for an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
It is primarily used where high radial loads occur and the shaft must simultaneously be guided in an axial direction. As a support bearing, the NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. As a result, the bearing absorbs axial forces on one side, whilst allowing axial displacement in the opposite direction. Typical applications include general mechanical engineering, industrial gearboxes and mechanical drive trains.
The design proves to be easy to install, as the inner ring can be removed from one side. The inner and outer rings can be fitted separately onto the shaft and housing, which facilitates installation in confined spaces. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the cylindrical rollers and keeps the weight of the rolling element assembly low. As the outer ring is designed without a groove or lubrication bore, the lubricant is supplied directly via the housing design.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a total width of 40 mm. These key dimensions are standardised and allow for a precise replacement in existing machine designs.
The NJ version functions as what is known as a support bearing. The outer ring has two solid flanges, whilst the inner ring has one solid flange. As a result, the bearing transmits radial loads and also guides the shaft in an axial direction.
The product combines two levels of precision: the dimensional accuracy corresponds to class P0 or Standard (PN/ABEC 1), whilst the running accuracy is manufactured to the tighter tolerance class P6 (ABEC 3). This ensures smooth operation.
The design, featuring a sheet steel cage and an open construction, allows for operation in a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. A suitable lubricant must be applied before commissioning, as the bearing is supplied from the factory without a seal.
The fact that it can be dismantled simplifies installation and removal. You can press the inner ring onto the shaft separately and fit the outer ring, together with the set of rollers, into the housing separately, before joining the two components together during assembly.
The bearing is manufactured with a standard radial clearance. This standard clearance is designed for typical operating temperatures and standard fits, where the inner and outer rings heat up within the intended limits during operation.
