The FAG NU2317 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 85x180x60 mm, provides a heavy-duty, non-locating bearing for high radial loads in industrial applications.
The NU2317 -E-XL-M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from FAG designed for mechanically demanding applications. Cylindrical rolling elements transmit high radial forces via line contact whilst maintaining high rigidity. The specified dimensions are 85 mm inner diameter, 180 mm outer diameter and 60 mm width. As an open roller bearing without sealing rings, the component can be integrated into on-site lubrication systems for a temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees.
This radial cylindrical roller bearing is primarily suitable for designs subject to predominantly radial loads, where thermal expansion of the shaft needs to be accommodated. The NU design serves purely as a non-locating bearing: The outer ring guides the rolling elements between two flanges, whilst the inner ring is flangeless and can be removed from both sides. This allows axial displacement to occur freely within the bearing. Designers utilise this property in bearing arrangements subject to high radial loads and thermal changes in shaft length.
The designation M1 indicates the version with a brass cage. This material withstands high accelerations, shock loads and vibrations. The classification in bearing clearance group C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This additional clearance prevents stress build-up should temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings, or should tight fits restrict the operating clearance. The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
With a bore diameter of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a width of 60 mm, the bearing complies with the standard specifications of the NU2317 series. These dimensions ensure a positive fit on the shaft and in the housing.
The NU design features two solid flanges on the outer ring and a flat, flangeless inner ring. The inner ring can be removed from either side. The bearing transmits radial forces and compensates for axial changes in the shaft’s length directly between the rollers and the raceway.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. If components undergo thermal expansion during operation, or if tight fits cause the inner ring to expand, the increased clearance compensates for this loss of space to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed.
The suffix M1 denotes a brass cage. Brass is characterised by high mechanical strength and good performance under impact loads or vibrations. The cage maintains an even spacing between the rollers and guides them securely within the bearing.
The model is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. As the bearing is of an unsealed design, the thermal limits of the selected lubricant and the surrounding structure determine the actual operating temperature.
As an open cylindrical roller bearing, this model has no seals and is manufactured without a lubrication groove or lubrication bore on the outer ring. Lubrication is provided entirely via the adjacent housing structure, which must also protect against the ingress of dirt.
