The SKF 51118 axial deep groove ball bearing accommodates unilateral axial loads for shaft diameters of 90 mm and is made from 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel.
The 51118 axial deep groove ball bearing accommodates axial forces in one direction and provides axial support for rotating shafts. The SKF unit has a bore of 90 mm, an outside diameter of 120 mm and a height of 22 mm. Thanks to the 100Cr6 material used in its manufacture, the bearing remains dimensionally stable at operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +150 degrees. The guided sheet steel cage distributes the rolling elements evenly across the raceways of the housing and shaft flange.
The 51118 axial deep-groove ball bearing is used in designs where purely axial forces act on the shaft in a defined direction. As this series is not designed to accommodate radial forces, this bearing is often combined with separate radial bearings. Typical applications can be found in general mechanical engineering, in gearboxes or spindle bearings with an axial guidance function. Due to its flat disc design, the bearing does not compensate for misalignment, which is why flat and perpendicular contact surfaces on the connecting structure are required.
The single-acting design of this bearing consists of a shaft disc, a housing disc and the ball-and-cage assembly situated between them. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the balls with low friction and is suitable for temperatures up to +150 degrees. The component complies with tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1. When designing the application, it must be borne in mind that this version is supplied without a washer and requires rigid mounting, as it does not allow for angular misalignment.
This axial bearing has a bore of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 120 mm and a total width of 22 mm. The main dimensions comply with standardised mounting spaces in accordance with tolerance class P0/PN. The shaft and housing washers are designed to match these mounting dimensions and ensure smooth guidance under axial loads.
The design is intended to accommodate purely axial loads from a single direction. The bearing must not be subjected to radial loads, as these lead to edge running and increased wear. If combined forces occur within the system, a separate bearing arrangement must be provided for radial support.
Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), the roller bearing is characterised by high dimensional stability. In combination with the sheet steel cage, the component is suitable for an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. The lubricant selected should be suitable for these thermal conditions.
P0 is the standard tolerance class for rolling bearings and corresponds to ABEC 1 classification under the American standard. It defines limit dimensions for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy of the bearing rings. For most industrial applications in general mechanical engineering, this accuracy class offers the right balance between dimensional accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
No, this version is not angle-adjustable. The bearing has flat washers and is sensitive to misalignment between the shaft and the housing. To avoid edge stresses, the connecting parts must be manufactured exactly at right angles to the axis of rotation and fitted rigidly. In the event of angular misalignment, special versions with spherical housing discs would be required.
The scope of supply includes the single-acting axial deep-groove ball bearing without washers. The housing washer rests directly against the housing shoulder. Before installation, it is advisable to check the mounting surfaces for flatness to ensure that the axial force is distributed evenly across the ball race.
