The SKF 33108 tapered roller bearing, measuring 40x75x26 mm, is designed to accommodate radial and single-direction axial loads in mechanical engineering applications.
The 33108 tapered roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing from SKF in a standard design. With a bore of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 75 mm and a width of 26 mm, this design accommodates both radial forces and single-direction axial forces. The complete bearing assembly comprises an inner ring with a set of rollers and a flangeless outer ring. This allows the unit to be fitted separately during assembly and precisely aligned against a second bearing.
Typical applications for the 33108 tapered roller bearing include shaft mountings subject to combined radial and axial loads. The tapered raceways transmit combined loads and provide high rigidity within the system. As single-row tapered roller bearings, by design, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, designers usually fit them in pairs in an O or X configuration. This arrangement is suitable for drives in which shafts are guided under varying force directions.
This model is part of SKF’s Explorer performance class and features a sheet steel cage. The cage guides the rollers along the raceway and withstands mechanical stresses during operation. The bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees and complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. When designing the bearing, the thermal conditions and the lubrication requirements for the open design must be taken into account.
With an internal diameter of 40 mm, an external diameter of 75 mm and a total width of 26 mm, the bearing has metric dimensions. It is a single-row roller bearing in a standard design. These dimensions allow it to be used as a fixed or floating bearing in conjunction with a second, mating tapered roller bearing.
Due to the inclined raceways of the tapered rollers, this bearing accommodates both radial and axial forces in one direction. A second bearing, arranged in a mirror-image configuration, is required to accommodate axial loads from both sides. This arrangement supports the shaft and limits axial play during operation.
SKF uses the ‘Explorer’ designation to identify optimised rolling bearings from its standard ranges. These bearing designs are characterised by optimised contact geometries between the rollers and raceways. This promotes the formation of a lubricating film during rolling contact and contributes to smooth running and reduced friction during operation.
The permissible operating temperature range for the bearing is between -30 and +120 degrees. Within this temperature range, the components and the sheet steel cage continue to function correctly. When selecting the appropriate lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that its operating limits correspond to the operating temperatures encountered.
Due to their design, tapered roller bearings are not self-retaining. The inner ring, with its roller cage, and the flangeless outer ring can be fitted separately onto the shaft and housing. This separability facilitates mechanical installation and maintenance work, and requires the operating clearance to be set correctly during assembly.
The tapered roller bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 standard tolerance. This class defines the permissible dimensional, form and running deviations for general industrial requirements. It is sufficient for mechanical engineering applications without specific precision requirements regarding concentricity.
