The FAG 33116 single-row tapered roller bearing, measuring 80 × 130 × 37 mm, is capable of withstanding high radial and axial loads simultaneously in mechanical engineering applications.
The 33116 tapered roller bearing is an open, single-row radial roller bearing in a standard design. FAG manufactures this rolling bearing with the key dimensions of an 80 mm bore, a 130 mm outer diameter and a 37 mm width. Due to the tapered arrangement of the rolling elements, the bearing is suitable for demanding industrial applications involving combined loads. Structurally, the bearing consists of an inner ring with a set of rollers and a separate outer ring. This split design simplifies both installation and subsequent maintenance work on shafts and gearboxes.
Combined loads consisting of radial forces and unilateral axial forces constitute the primary area of application for the 33116 tapered roller bearing. Typical applications include gearbox shafts, axle bearings and general industrial drives. As single-row tapered roller bearings can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in a mirror-image pair with a second bearing. This arrangement results in a rigid shaft guidance system. The permissible temperature range extends from –30 to +120 degrees and covers standard operating conditions in industrial environments.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the tapered rollers along the raceway of the inner ring and maintains the flow of lubricant. It is characterised by dimensional stability under thermal stress in the range from -30 to +120 degrees. Together with tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1 standard), the bearing ensures smooth running. During assembly, adjust the axial bearing clearance via the mating bearing. Ensure proper lubrication, as this is an open bearing without integrated seals.
With a bore of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 130 mm and a width of 37 mm, the bearing has standardised key dimensions. These standardised dimensions ensure a precise fit on shafts and in housings. Before installation, the mating dimensions of the surrounding components must be checked.
This single-row roller bearing simultaneously accommodates combined radial loads and axial forces acting on one side. The contact angle of the tapered raceways and rollers ensures that the force is transferred directly into the bearing ring. For alternating or double-sided axial forces, a second tapered roller bearing must be fitted in pairs.
FAG fits this bearing with a sturdy sheet steel cage. The cage maintains an even spacing between the tapered rollers and guides the rolling elements in an orderly manner along the raceway. The material retains its dimensional stability within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees and is fully compatible with mineral oil-based lubricants.
The roller bearing remains fully operational between -30 and +120 degrees. Within this range, the bearing rings, tapered rollers and sheet steel cage retain their dimensional and shape stability. The lubricant used should be selected to suit the prevailing operating temperatures in order to ensure a lasting lubricating effect.
With a tolerance class of P0 (PN or ABEC 1), the bearing complies with the standard accuracy requirements for rolling bearings. This design meets the typical requirements in general mechanical engineering, vehicle manufacturing and gearbox construction. It supports defined fit conditions for professionally machined bearing seats on shafts and housings.
Tapered roller bearings are not self-retaining in design. The inner ring, together with the roller cage, forms a single unit, whilst the outer ring remains separate. This design makes assembly considerably easier, as the inner and outer rings can be fitted separately into housings and onto shafts.
