The FAG single-row tapered roller bearing 33022 (110 x 170 x 47 mm) withstands high combined radial and axial loads at operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees.
The FAG 33022 tapered roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing that accommodates both radial and one-way axial loads. Thanks to the tapered design of the rollers and raceways, the rolling elements run with low friction. The dimensions – a bore of 110 mm, an outside diameter of 170 mm and a width of 47 mm – define the mounting geometry. The design comprises the complete tapered roller bearing, consisting of an inner ring with a roller cage and a separate outer ring.
This bearing is suitable for applications where radial forces act in conjunction with unilateral axial forces. Typical applications include shaft mountings in general mechanical engineering and gearbox construction. As single-row tapered roller bearings, by their design, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, designers usually fit a second bearing in a mirror-image configuration opposite the first. This arrangement guides the shaft without play and accommodates alternating axial forces.
The 33022 tapered roller bearing has a separable design. The inner ring, together with the set of rollers, and the outer ring can be fitted separately onto the shaft and housing. This simplifies the installation process and subsequent inspections. The required bearing clearance is only adjusted against the mating bearing during installation. The sheet steel cage holds the rollers in position and is suitable for a temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees. The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
With an internal diameter of 110 mm, an external diameter of 170 mm and a total width of 47 mm, the bearing complies with standardised industrial dimensions. These dimensions allow for direct replacement in existing designs. Before fitting, it is advisable to check that the shaft and housing seats are dimensionally accurate.
The tapered rollers and raceways dissipate radial and axial forces simultaneously. A single tapered roller bearing supports axial forces in one direction. For both directions, a second bearing is fitted in a mirror-image configuration. This prevents harmful forced slippage and ensures smooth rolling behaviour.
The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements along the inner ring raceway and prevents the rollers from coming into contact with one another. The sheet metal design is characterised by dimensional stability and resistance to common industrial lubricants. It also covers the bearing’s full temperature range from -30 to +120 degrees.
The P0/PN or ABEC 1 classification denotes the standard tolerance for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy in industrial roller bearings. It meets the requirements for standard machine and gearbox construction. This tolerance class allows for straightforward replacement during maintenance work without the need for dimensional adjustments.
The clearance in this tapered roller bearing is not set at the factory, but is determined during assembly. As the inner and outer rings can be separated, fitters adjust the required operating clearance or preload using shaft nuts, spacer washers or housing covers in relation to the mating bearing.
The 33022 tapered roller bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within this range, the rings, rollers and sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. To ensure safe operation, a lubricant should be selected whose viscosity is suited to this temperature range.
