The FAG single-row tapered roller bearing 32316 (80 × 170 × 61.5 mm) accommodates high combined radial and axial loads in demanding industrial applications.
The FAG 32316 single-row tapered roller bearing supports rotating shafts subjected to high radial and single-sided axial forces. Thanks to the tapered geometry of the raceways and rollers, the rolling elements roll without slippage. The design as a complete tapered roller bearing comprises the inner ring with roller cage and the matching outer ring. With a bore of 80 mm, an outside diameter of 170 mm and a width of 61.5 mm, the design complies with the defined dimensions for industrial mechanical engineering.
This roller bearing is primarily used where high load-carrying capacities and rigidity are required under combined loads. Typical applications include gearboxes, pumps or rigid shaft mountings. As single-row tapered roller bearings, by their very design, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in pairs with a second bearing mounted in the opposite direction. This arrangement guides the shaft axially without play and absorbs alternating operating forces in a controlled manner.
This model is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, which corresponds to the standard tolerance for general mechanical engineering. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements within a temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. As the 32316 tapered roller bearing can be disassembled, the outer ring and inner ring assemblies can be fitted separately. During installation, the internal bearing clearance or preload is adjusted directly via the mating bearing to meet the specific operational requirements.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 80 mm, an external diameter of 170 mm and a total width of 61.5 mm. These standardised metric dimensions allow for straightforward installation in standardised bearing housings and on corresponding shaft seats in industrial machinery and plant engineering.
The bearing is designed to accommodate both high radial forces and axial loads from a single direction simultaneously. The inclined raceways transmit the combined forces efficiently. In order to support axial forces in the opposite direction as well, the tapered roller bearing is usually mounted on the shaft in a mirror-image configuration to a second bearing.
The bearing’s operating temperature range is between –30 and +120 degrees Celsius. The integrated sheet steel cage ensures stable operation of the rolling elements within this temperature range. The lubricant selected must also be suitable for the specific operating temperature.
The designations P0, PN and ABEC 1 refer to the standard tolerance class for rolling bearings. They define the permissible dimensional and concentricity tolerances for the outer and inner rings. This tolerance class meets the requirements of common industrial applications and general shaft mountings.
In this type of bearing, the outer ring is not rigidly connected to the inner ring. You can fit the inner ring, together with the roller set and cage, separately from the outer bearing shell. This separable design considerably facilitates installation and subsequent maintenance checks in confined spaces within the housing.
Single-row tapered roller bearings are supplied from the factory without any fixed bearing clearance. The operating clearance, or a slight preload, is only precisely adjusted during installation by axially shifting the outer or inner ring against the mirror-image-arranged mating bearing. This is typically achieved using shaft nuts, adjusting washers or housing covers.
