The FAG 32311 tapered roller bearing, with dimensions of 55 × 120 × 45.5 mm, is designed to withstand high combined radial and axial loads in mechanical engineering applications.
The FAG 32311 tapered roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for industrial applications involving combined loads. Thanks to the tapered arrangement of the rolling elements, this bearing can simultaneously withstand high radial forces as well as unidirectional axial forces. With key dimensions of a 55 mm bore, 120 mm outer diameter and 45.5 mm width, the standard version is suitable for fixed mounting arrangements in gearboxes and general mechanical engineering. Maintenance engineers and designers alike appreciate the dimensionally accurate manufacture, which allows for direct replacement during repairs or in new designs.
The 32311 tapered roller bearing is used where heavy radial loads occur alongside defined axial forces. Typical applications include gearbox designs and shaft bearings in general mechanical engineering. As single-row tapered roller bearings, by their design, can only support axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in pairs in an X or O arrangement, mirroring a mating bearing. This arrangement allows for precise adjustment of the operating clearance and ensures rigid guidance of the shaft under varying load conditions.
FAG equips this complete tapered roller bearing with a sheet steel cage, which guides the tapered rollers even under high acceleration. The design complies with standard tolerance P0 or ABEC 1 and thus meets the usual precision requirements of mechanical engineering. The permissible temperature range extends from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The separable design also allows for the separate assembly of the inner ring with the roller set and the outer ring, which simplifies installation in confined spaces.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 55 mm, an outside diameter of 120 mm and a total width of 45.5 mm. These standardised key dimensions facilitate identification when replacing bearings during maintenance and ensure a precise fit on the shaft and in the housing bore.
A single-row tapered roller bearing absorbs axial forces from one direction only, as the angularly arranged raceways generate an internal axial force under radial loading. To guide the shaft axially in both directions, a second bearing is fitted in a mirror-image configuration. This also allows the required bearing clearance to be adjusted.
The standard version with a sheet steel cage is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. This makes the bearing suitable for a wide range of operating environments in gearboxes and drive units. To ensure reliable operation, it is essential to select a lubricant suitable for the prevailing operating temperatures.
The designations P0, PN and ABEC 1 denote the standard tolerance for rolling bearings in accordance with international standards. They define the permissible dimensional, geometric and running deviations for rings and bores. This class is suitable for conventional industrial applications involving normal speeds and standard requirements for concentricity.
With this bearing, the inner ring – including the roller cage – and the outer ring can be fitted separately. This enables workshop managers and maintenance engineers to press the bearing rings onto the shaft or fit them into the housing separately. This simplifies handling during assembly and inspection, as well as the replacement of worn components.
The bearing is fitted with a sheet steel cage. This type of cage is characterised by high strength combined with low weight and can withstand mechanical shock loads. Sheet steel cages are suitable for use with standard commercial greases and mineral oils within the entire permissible temperature range of up to +120 degrees Celsius.
