The FAG 32018 -X single-row tapered roller bearing, measuring 90 × 140 × 32 mm, can accommodate high radial and unilateral axial loads.
The 32018 -X tapered roller bearing from FAG is a single-row roller bearing designed for industrial applications involving combined loads. Thanks to their truncated cone-shaped rolling elements, these bearings transmit high radial forces whilst simultaneously withstanding axial forces from one direction. With a bore of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 140 mm and a width of 32 mm, this standard bearing is suitable for demanding shaft mountings in mechanical engineering and gearbox construction.
This tapered roller bearing is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements in which both radial and axial forces act simultaneously. As a single tapered roller bearing can only support axial loads in one direction, users usually fit a second bearing, arranged in a mirror-image configuration, to act as a counter-bearing. The open design allows for flexible lubrication with grease or lubricating oil, precisely tailored to the requirements of your design.
The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements along the raceway and withstands operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees. A key installation advantage lies in the separable design: you can fit the inner ring, including the roller ring, separately from the outer ring. This facilitates alignment and the adjustment of axial play. With the standard tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the component fits precisely into standard industrial fit systems.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 90 mm, an external diameter of 140 mm and a total width of 32 mm. These key dimensions determine the installation space required on the shaft and within the housing. Before installation, check the shaft seat and the housing bore to ensure that the two separate bearing rings fit precisely.
The P0 classification corresponds to the international standard class for rolling bearings, comparable to the US ABEC 1 classification. It defines the permissible dimensional and runout tolerances for the outer and inner rings. For the vast majority of industrial applications, this tolerance class provides sufficient concentricity for gearboxes or general shaft bearings.
The 32018-X tapered roller bearing has a permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the rolling elements, the bearing rings and the integrated sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. For this temperature range, always select a lubricant whose specifications are suitable for the respective operating temperature and the prevailing operating speeds.
The separate design of the outer ring and inner ring with roller set is dictated by the design. You fit both rings onto the shaft and housing independently of one another. This simplifies assembly in the case of press fits. Once the components have been joined, you can set the desired bearing clearance or preload by adjusting the bearing against a second bearing.
The sheet steel cage keeps the conical rollers at a uniform distance from one another and prevents the rolling elements from coming into direct contact with one another. This reduces friction and noise during operation. Thanks to its open design, the cage allows sufficient space for grease or lubricating oil to be distributed between the raceways.
Unlike many other types of bearing, single-row tapered roller bearings do not have a fixed clearance set at the factory. The operating clearance or a slight preload is only set during assembly. This is usually achieved by axially shifting the rings relative to one another using shaft nuts, shims or housing covers.
