The SKF 320/22 X tapered roller bearing can withstand high radial and single-direction axial loads whilst maintaining compact dimensions of 22 × 44 × 15 mm.
The SKF 320/22 X tapered roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing in the Explorer series. With a bore of 22 mm, an outer diameter of 44 mm and a width of 15 mm, this bearing is suitable for industrial applications involving combined loads. The truncated conical rollers run on inclined raceways, enabling the bearing to support radial forces and single-direction axial forces. The bearing is supplied as a complete unit, comprising an inner ring with a set of rollers and the corresponding outer ring.
Tapered roller bearings of this design are used wherever radial and axial forces act on the shaft simultaneously. As single-row tapered roller bearings, by their very design, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in pairs with a mirror-image mating bearing. This arrangement ensures play-free and rigid guidance of rotating components. Manufactured to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, the bearing complies with standardised specifications for dimensional and concentricity accuracy.
The integrated sheet steel cage maintains the tapered rollers at a uniform distance and distributes the forces acting on them during operation. The design withstands thermal influences within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. The SKF Explorer designation indicates an optimised internal geometry designed to support the formation of a lubricating film on the contact surfaces. During installation, the bearing clearance must be precisely adjusted in relation to the second tapered roller bearing.
The bearing has a bore of 22 mm, an outside diameter of 44 mm and a total width of 15 mm. With these compact dimensions, the roller bearing is suitable for shaft designs where limited installation space is combined with the need to accommodate combined radial and axial loads.
This roller bearing features an open, separable design. You can fit the outer ring separately from the inner ring with its roller cage. This feature makes step-by-step installation into machine housings and onto shafts, as well as maintenance work in industrial environments, considerably easier.
Due to the tapered raceway arrangement, the single-row bearing absorbs axial forces from one direction only. In practice, it is therefore usually fitted in pairs with a second tapered roller bearing in an X or O configuration. The second bearing provides the axial counter-support.
The version with a sheet steel cage is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. Within this temperature range, the bearing rings and rollers retain their dimensional stability. For continuous operation, it is recommended that a lubricant be selected that is suitable for this operating range.
The designation P0 corresponds to the international standard tolerance for standard precision in rolling bearings, classified as ABEC 1 in North America. It defines standardised permissible limits for dimensional and running errors in general mechanical engineering.
The sheet steel cage is characterised by high mechanical strength and thermal resistance. It guides the rollers with minimal vibration and is resistant to common mineral-based greases and lubricating oils. As a result, the cage continues to function effectively throughout the entire operating range.
