The SKF 33116 tapered roller bearing, with its main dimensions of 80 × 130 × 39 mm, accommodates combined radial and axial loads in demanding industrial applications.
The 33116 tapered roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for high radial and single-direction axial loads. This product is a complete bearing in the SKF Explorer performance class. The inner ring with roller set, together with the separately mountable outer ring, forms a separable unit. This design facilitates separate mounting on the shaft and in the bearing housing. Thanks to the line contact of the tapered rollers, the design offers high structural rigidity during operation.
The 33116 tapered roller bearing is primarily used where high radial and axial forces act on the bearing arrangement simultaneously. As single-row tapered roller bearings, by their design, can only support axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in pairs in a counter-rotating arrangement within machinery. In this way, two bearings mounted opposite each other support the rotating shaft and absorb axial forces from both directions.
The bearing features a sheet steel cage which guides the tapered rollers evenly and is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees. Manufacture to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1 ensures a precise fit on standardised shaft and housing seats. You can precisely adjust the final operating clearance during mechanical installation by positioning the outer ring axially. As the bearing is supplied in an open design, you should select the lubricant to suit the external housing seal.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 80 mm, an external diameter of 130 mm and a total width of 39 mm. Before replacing the bearing, compare these nominal dimensions with the specifications in your design drawing or with the dimensions of the existing shaft and housing bore.
Single-row tapered roller bearings, such as the 33116, transmit both radial and axial forces in one direction. The tapered rollers transfer combined loads obliquely into the raceways. For axial shaft support on both sides, fit a second bearing in a mirror-image configuration on the shaft.
For this model, the permissible temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees. This temperature range is suitable for many demanding operating environments. When designing the system, it is advisable to ensure that the thermal resistance of the lubricant used and any external housing seals are compatible with this range.
The design is not self-retaining. The inner ring, together with the roller set and cage, can be fitted separately from the flangeless outer ring. This feature makes it easier to mount the bearing onto the shaft, to press the outer ring into the housing, and to carry out subsequent maintenance checks in confined spaces.
The P0 classification corresponds to the standard normal tolerance for general-purpose industrial rolling bearings and is comparable to the ABEC 1 designation. It specifies the manufacturing limits for concentricity, bore dimensional accuracy and external dimensions. This precision grade is sufficient for conventional shaft bearings in mechanical engineering.
As the component is designed as an open bearing, apply grease or lubricating oil during assembly. The choice of lubricant depends on the speed, operating temperature and ambient conditions. Ensure that the housing is effectively sealed to protect the bearing from contamination.
