The SKF 33020 tapered roller bearing accommodates high combined radial and axial loads in one direction, with dimensions of 100 × 150 × 39 mm.
The 33020 tapered roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for demanding applications in mechanical and plant engineering. In this design, tapered rolling elements roll on conical raceways, enabling the bearing to accommodate combined loads from both the radial and axial directions. The complete bearing assembly comprises the inner ring, including the set of rollers, and the corresponding outer ring. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements and maintains a constant, uniform spacing between the rollers.
Tapered roller bearings simultaneously accommodate high radial forces and single-direction axial forces. Typical applications include bearings subjected to combined loads in drive and gearbox units. As a single bearing can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in pairs in an O or X arrangement with a second bearing positioned opposite. This arrangement enables the precise guidance of rotating shafts.
Tapered roller bearings are not self-retaining. The inner ring with roller cage can be fitted separately from the outer ring, which facilitates handling during shaft and housing assembly. As this bearing belongs to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, it complies with the standard used in mechanical engineering. During installation, the operating clearance or preload is adjusted axially via the mating bearing. The permissible temperature range is between –30 and +120 degrees Celsius.
With an internal diameter of 100 mm, an external diameter of 150 mm and a width of 39 mm, the unit occupies a precisely defined installation space. These standardised dimensions determine the design of the shaft and the housing bore.
Thanks to the angled raceways, the design can accommodate high radial forces as well as axial forces from a single direction. A second bearing, arranged in a mirror-image configuration, is required to accommodate alternating or bidirectional axial forces.
The cage, made of pressed sheet steel, keeps the tapered rollers at a distance from one another and prevents direct contact between the rolling elements. The component has a low mass and is suitable for operating temperatures between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius.
This designation indicates the standard tolerance class for rolling bearings in terms of dimensional, geometric and running accuracy. Bearings in this precision class meet the standard requirements of mechanical engineering and do not require any special fits on the shaft or housing bore.
Unlike many radial bearings, the bearing clearance is not fixed by the manufacturer. The operating clearance or preload is only established during assembly by axially aligning the bearing against a second bearing using shims, shaft nuts or a housing cover.
Yes, the outer ring can be completely separated from the inner ring with its pre-assembled roller cage. This ability to dismantle the assembly facilitates installation, as the rings and shaft seat can be machined separately and then fitted one after the other.
