The FAG tapered roller bearing 32028 -X-XL-P5 (140x210x45 mm) offers enhanced precision in accordance with tolerance class P5 for demanding industrial applications involving combined radial and axial loads.
The 32028 -X-XL-P5 tapered roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing in metric dimensions, comprising an inner ring, a flangeless outer ring and a guided set of rollers. The geometry of the tapered rollers enables the simultaneous absorption of high radial forces and single-sided axial forces. As it is manufactured to tolerance class P5 (equivalent to ABEC 5), this roller bearing exhibits reduced running and dimensional deviations compared to standard tolerance. A robust sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceways.
The 32028 -X-XL-P5 tapered roller bearing is primarily used in gearboxes, spindle bearings and drive shafts where precise shaft guidance and high concentricity are required. As single-row tapered roller bearings, by their design, can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in a mirror-image configuration as a pair of bearings in an O or X arrangement. The bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees and is therefore suitable for industrial applications subject to thermal stress.
Classification as tolerance class P5 (ABEC 5) means tighter tolerance ranges for the bore, outer diameter and radial runout compared with the standard tolerance. This reduces vibrations at higher speeds and results in a more even load distribution across the individual tapered rollers. During assembly, the fact that the bearing can be dismantled facilitates the separate alignment of the inner and outer rings. The correct adjustment of the axial bearing clearance or preload during installation affects the operating temperature and service life.
The dimensions are 140 mm bore diameter, 210 mm outer diameter and 45 mm overall width. The inner and outer rings can be fitted separately, which makes it easier to fit them into the housing and shaft.
This P5 (or ABEC 5) rating indicates a higher level of manufacturing precision than the standard specification, with tighter concentricity and straightness tolerances. This contributes to smooth running and precise shaft guidance.
A robust sheet steel cage is fitted to guide the roller elements and maintain a uniform spacing between them. Sheet steel is characterised by high mechanical strength and is designed for the bearing’s operating temperature range.
The operating temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees. Within these limits, the bearing rings, rolling elements and steel cage retain their dimensional stability. The choice of lubricant should be tailored to this range.
A single-row tapered roller bearing can only accommodate axial forces from one direction. To fix a shaft in both axial directions, two bearings are fitted in a mirror-image configuration to one another in an X or O arrangement. The specific relative alignment of the bearings also determines the operating clearance or preload.
This is an open design without integrated seals or cover plates. Protection against dirt and moisture, as well as against the loss of lubricant, is provided by the design of the surrounding housing assembly.
