The FAG 32304 tapered roller bearing, measuring 20 × 52 × 22.25 mm, can simultaneously accommodate high radial and single-direction axial loads in mechanical engineering applications.
The 32304 tapered roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing from FAG in a standard design. The complete bearing consists of the inner ring, including the guided set of rollers, and the outer ring, which can be fitted separately. Tapered raceways and rolling elements distribute the forces acting on the bearing linearly across the contact surfaces. This design is specifically suited to applications where compact dimensions must be combined with high load-carrying capacity.
The single-row tapered roller bearing 32304 accommodates combined loads consisting of radial forces and single-sided axial forces. As the rollers, by design, can only support axial forces in one direction, they are usually fitted in pairs in mechanical engineering in an X or O arrangement, mirroring a mating bearing. This arrangement enables controlled guidance of the shaft under varying load directions and contributes to the high rigidity of the entire bearing assembly.
This bearing features a sheet steel cage that maintains a uniform spacing between the roller elements even during continuous operation. The permissible temperature range extends from –30 to +120 degrees and covers standard industrial operating conditions. Manufactured to tolerance class P0 (equivalent to PN or ABEC 1), the 32304 tapered roller bearing can be integrated precisely and dimensionally accurately into existing housing and shaft seats.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 20 mm at the bore, an external diameter of 52 mm and a total width of 22.25 mm. These dimensions allow for the precise replacement of existing bearing units of the same size in mechanical engineering.
Single-row tapered roller bearings of this design accommodate combined loads consisting of radial and axial forces. The tapered arrangement of the rolling elements directs axial forces in one direction. For axial loads acting in both directions, two bearings are arranged in a mirror-image configuration.
Inside, a sheet steel cage guides the tapered rollers along the raceway. This cage material is characterised by its dimensional stability and low weight, and is designed to withstand lubricants and thermal stresses within the specified temperature range.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees. Within this range, the dimensional stability of the rolling elements and bearing rings remains constant. When commissioning the bearing, users should ensure that the lubricant used is also approved for the relevant operating temperature.
Classification in tolerance class P0 (equivalent to PN and ABEC 1) denotes the standard tolerance for industrial roller bearings. It defines mandatory limit dimensions for bore, outer diameter and width tolerances, as well as concentricity, which ensures a precise fit on standardised shafts and in bearing seats.
Due to their design, tapered roller bearings are not self-retaining. The inner ring, together with the roller ring and cage, forms a single unit, whilst the outer ring can be removed separately. This feature facilitates the separate installation of the shaft and housing, as well as the subsequent adjustment of the bearing clearance.
