The SKF 23244 CC/C3W33 spherical roller bearing has dimensions of 220 × 400 × 144 mm, a C3 clearance and a lubrication groove for heavy radial loads.
The SKF 23244 CC/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing is an open roller bearing designed for heavy radial and axial loads. With key dimensions of a 220 mm bore, 400 mm outside diameter and 144 mm width, this design can withstand considerable forces. Two symmetrical rows of rollers automatically compensate for misalignment between the shaft and the housing. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements precisely at operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees.
This size is primarily used in bearing arrangements subject to high radial and axial loads, where shaft deflection or misalignment may occur. Thanks to the barrel-shaped design of the rolling elements, the bearing compensates for angular misalignment without inducing residual stresses. Manufacture from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 gives the components high compressive strength for operation under heavy loads. For open bearing arrangements, an external housing seal and regular relubrication must be provided for.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. It compensates for thermal expansion at high temperatures as well as interference fits on the shaft and housing. The designation W33 refers to a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, allowing lubricant to reach directly between the rows of rollers. The tolerance class combines increased running accuracy (P5) with dimensional accuracy (PN) to ensure uniform concentricity in the drive train.
The designation refers to a double-row self-aligning roller bearing with a bore diameter of 220 mm. The suffix CC denotes a version with a sheet steel cage. The designation C3 indicates increased radial clearance, whilst W33 describes the integrated lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring.
This bearing has an inside diameter of 220 mm, an outside diameter of 400 mm and a total width of 144 mm. Thanks to these dimensions, the roller bearing can accommodate heavy combined loads. When designing the assembly, appropriate tolerances for the shaft and housing bore must be taken into account.
During operation, friction and torques generate process heat, which often causes the inner ring to heat up more than the outer ring. Tight fits also reduce the radial bearing clearance after installation. The C3 bearing clearance ensures sufficient operating clearance, preventing the rolling elements from jamming and avoiding overloads.
The W33 design features a lubrication groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring of the bearing. Lubricant can be fed directly into the bearing through these channels. The lubricant is distributed across both rows of rollers, which simplifies the maintenance process and helps to protect the raceways whilst the bearing is in operation.
The spherical roller bearing, made from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. Within this range, the material retains its dimensional stability. The lubricants used and any external housing seals must also be approved for the temperatures encountered during operation.
This grade combines the dimensional accuracy of PN with the increased running accuracy of P5. Whilst the mating dimensions comply with standard limits, the concentricity of the inner and outer rings is subject to tighter tolerances. This reduces concentricity deviations and ensures smooth running of the entire bearing assembly.
