The SKF 23238 CC/W33 open spherical roller bearing, measuring 190 × 340 × 120 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity for heavy-duty industrial applications with misalignment.
The 23238 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel for demanding industrial drives. Thanks to its spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment between the shaft and housing. The open design with a sheet steel cage is rated for operating temperatures from -30 to +200 degrees. The bearing is manufactured by SKF and has standard radial clearance.
The design is intended for heavy-duty shaft mountings where very high radial loads and additional axial forces in both directions occur. Typical applications include large industrial drives and gearbox applications. The self-aligning roller design compensates for manufacturing-related misalignments or load-induced shaft deflection during operation without causing additional edge pressures on the rolling elements. This ensures that the load distribution across the raceways remains uniform.
The designation W33 indicates an annular lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring of the bearing. This design enables a direct and uniform supply of lubricant into the interior of the bearing via the housing structure. Whilst the dimensional accuracy corresponds to the standard PN class, the tighter running accuracy of class P5 ensures smooth, low-vibration concentricity. Due to the open design, protection against contamination is provided by the surrounding bearing housing.
The spherical roller bearing has a bore of 190 mm, an outer diameter of 340 mm and a width of 120 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised main dimensions for roller bearings in this size series and determine the required installation space in the housing and the shaft seat.
W33 denotes a lubrication groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring of the roller bearing. This allows grease or lubricating oil to be applied directly between the two rows of rollers, which simplifies relubrication whilst the bearing is fitted and ensures an even distribution of the lubricant during operation.
Tolerance class P5 defines a tighter tolerance than the standard for running accuracy, for example with regard to the concentricity of the inner and outer rings. The dimensional accuracy of the bore and outer diameter corresponds to standard class PN, whilst the higher concentricity precision helps to reduce vibrations.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +200 degrees. The 100Cr6 material and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. When designing the bearing assembly, the lubricant used must be selected to suit the respective operating temperature.
The open design does not incorporate integrated sealing washers. This design is typical of larger self-aligning roller bearings, as sealing is usually provided by the surrounding bearing housing. Furthermore, the open design allows for the free flow of lubricating oil or the replacement of grease at regular lubrication intervals.
This version features standard radial bearing clearance. Bearing clearance refers to the internal movement between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. With standard fits and at normal operating temperatures, the standard version provides sufficient clearance to ensure low-friction operation of the rollers.
