The SKF 23132 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing (160x270x86 mm) features a tapered bore, a lubrication groove and enhanced P5 running accuracy for heavy radial loads.
As a double-row roller bearing, the 23132 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing accommodates very high radial loads as well as simultaneously acting axial forces. This open bearing, made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), is manufactured by SKF in the Explorer series. With key dimensions of a 160 mm bore, 270 mm outside diameter and 86 mm width, the barrel-shaped roller arrangement automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements within a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
Heavy-duty industrial drives and shaft mountings often subject bearing arrangements to varying loads and misalignments. The 23132 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing dynamically compensates for these angular deviations between the inner and outer rings. As this is an SKF Explorer-class bearing with P5 running accuracy, this design is particularly suitable for machines with high concentricity requirements. Purchasing managers and maintenance engineers frequently use this size in stationary mechanical assemblies where scheduled relubrication via lubrication lines is a fixed requirement.
The suffix ‘K’ indicates a tapered inner ring bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. You can mount the bearing either directly onto a tapered shaft seat or onto cylindrical shafts using a mounting or withdrawal sleeve. When fitting into a tapered bore, you usually determine the correct fit by measuring the reduction in radial clearance. The designation W33 indicates a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This allows you to relubricate directly into the roller set using a suitable grease or lubricating oil.
The combination describes key design features: CC stands for roller-guided rolling elements with a ribless inner ring and a sheet steel cage. The ‘K’ denotes a tapered bore with a 1:12 taper. The suffix ‘W33’ refers to a lubrication groove with lubrication holes on the outer ring, through which lubricant is delivered precisely and evenly between the two rows of rollers.
This roller bearing has an inside diameter of 160 mm, an outside diameter of 270 mm and a width across flats of 86 mm. Due to its tapered design, the bore tapers in accordance with the standard taper ratio of 1:12. These dimensions are standardised and enable precise installation in suitable bearing housings or machine housings.
The bearing is fitted either onto a tapered shaft or, using a mounting or withdrawal sleeve, onto a cylindrical shaft. When pushed onto the shaft axially, the inner ring expands, thereby reducing the radial bearing clearance. Maintenance engineers usually check the fit by measuring this reduction in radial clearance with a feeler gauge before and after tightening.
The self-aligning roller bearing, manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. As this is an open bearing without integrated rubber seals, the chosen lubricant determines the actual thermal operating limit. Ensure that you use greases or oils that are approved for the intended operating temperature.
The bearing features dimensional accuracy PN in accordance with standard tolerances, as well as enhanced running accuracy in accordance with Class P5. Whilst the mounting dimensions, such as the outer diameter and width, comply with standard tolerances, the bearing has tighter concentricity tolerances. This ensures smooth, low-vibration operation in demanding industrial applications.
The open design, which does not feature ablative cover plates, allows for flexible lubrication via the lubrication groove in the outer ring. This is advantageous in heavy-duty industrial drives, as lubricants can be replenished as required whilst the system is in operation. At the same time, there are no additional friction losses caused by sealing lips, which reduces thermal stress. Protection against dirt is provided by the housing.
