The open SKF 23120 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing, measuring 100 × 165 × 52 mm, can accommodate high radial loads and compensates for misalignment during operation.
The SKF 23120 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing belongs to the series of double-row spherical roller bearings. Thanks to the hollow spherical raceway of the outer ring, the roller arrangement automatically adjusts to shaft deflection. This design is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements where strong radial forces act on the shaft. Manufactured from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6, the component withstands thermal loads ranging from –30 to +200 degrees Celsius.
Design engineers prefer this size for applications involving dynamic shaft misalignment. Thanks to its self-aligning function, the roller guide compensates for angular misalignment between the shaft and the housing without causing disruptive edge pressures. As the component is of an open design, it can be connected directly to a central lubrication system or a sealed oil bath. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration and withstands mechanical shock loads.
The suffix W33 denotes an annular lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. Maintenance personnel use this to press lubricant directly between the two sets of rollers. This reduces friction and rapidly distributes the lubricant to all contact zones. In addition to the standard dimensional accuracy PN, this design features the enhanced running accuracy P5. The reduced radial runout promotes low-vibration concentricity at higher speeds.
The main dimensions of the bearing are 100 mm for the internal diameter (bore), 165 mm for the external diameter and 52 mm for the width. These metric dimensions are standardised, ensuring that the component fits precisely into standardised housings.
The designation W33 indicates a circumferential groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. Fresh lubricant is fed directly into the bearing interior, between the rows of rolling elements, via these feed holes. This makes periodic relubrication considerably easier whilst the bearing is installed.
The bearing has no integrated seals and is of an open design. In dusty environments or where there is a risk of splashing water, the seal must be provided by the surrounding bearing housing. This allows the lubricant to circulate freely within the housing.
A P5 rating indicates a tighter running tolerance than that of standard bearings. Whilst the external dimensions comply with the standard PN dimensional accuracy, the runout of the inner and outer rings is lower. This reduces vibrations during operation and ensures smooth running.
The self-aligning roller bearing, manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), is suitable for operation in a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. When designing the system, you must ensure that the grease or lubricating oil used is suitable for the relevant operating temperature.
The bearing has the standard radial bearing clearance (standard clearance). This design is intended for standard fit selections on the shaft and housing, where there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
