The SKF 23048 CCK/C3W33 spherical roller bearing, with dimensions of 240 × 360 × 92 mm, a tapered bore and C3 clearance, offers high load-carrying capacity for demanding shaft mountings.
The 23048 CCK/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing is an open roller bearing designed for heavy radial and axial loads in continuous industrial operation. SKF manufactures this model from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a sheet steel cage. Two symmetrical rows of rollers and the spherical outer ring raceway enable the bearing to compensate for shaft deflection and misalignment. Thanks to its permissible temperature range of –30 to +200 degrees, the bearing retains its dimensional stability even under thermal stress.
This rolling bearing is particularly suitable for gearboxes, conveyor systems and industrial drives subject to high radial forces. In these systems, operational conditions frequently cause the shaft to become misaligned, which would overload a rigid bearing. The self-aligning design dynamically accommodates angular misalignment between the inner and outer rings. Grease or lubricating oil can be applied directly to the working area of the rollers via the lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring (W33).
The CCK version features a tapered internal bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. This design facilitates assembly onto tapered shaft seats or using clamping and withdrawal sleeves. By sliding the bearing onto the shaft axially, you can precisely adjust the interference fit and the remaining operating radial clearance. The slightly increased factory-set C3 radial bearing clearance compensates for the expansion of the inner ring during assembly as well as thermal expansion during operation.
With an internal diameter of 240 mm, an external diameter of 360 mm and a width of 92 mm, the bearing corresponds to the 23048 series. The internal bore is tapered at a ratio of 1:12, which facilitates fitting onto suitable shaft seats or sleeves.
The suffix W33 denotes a ring-shaped lubrication groove and lubrication bores on the outer ring. This design feature allows lubricant to be fed directly from the outside between the two rows of rollers. As a result, the lubricant reaches the contact surfaces quickly, which simplifies relubrication intervals.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. As the inner ring expands elastically when permanently mounted on a tapered bearing seat, the bearing clearance is reduced. The C3 bearing clearance helps to ensure that sufficient operating clearance remains even after press-fitting and when the bearing is heated.
In this roller bearing, the dimensional accuracy complies with the standard tolerance PN, whilst the running accuracy meets the tighter concentricity limits of Class P5. This combination ensures low-vibration rotation and even load distribution during operation.
As an open bearing, this design has no factory-fitted seals. Sealing against dirt and moisture is provided by the surrounding housing structure. Lubrication can be carried out using either oil or grease, selected to suit the temperature range of the rolling element steel, which is from -30 to +200 degrees.
