The SKF 22328 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing, with a 140 mm bore, tapered seat and lubrication groove, offers a robust solution for heavy-duty industrial drives.
As a double-row roller bearing, the 22328 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing can accommodate high radial and axial loads. The barrel-shaped rollers run on a common spherical outer ring raceway, which automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel in the SKF Explorer performance class, this open rolling bearing is designed for heavy-duty machinery where dimensional accuracy and mechanical load-carrying capacity are both essential.
This roller bearing is typically used in industrial gearboxes and shaft mountings subject to combined loads. Thanks to its angularly adjustable design, the bearing compensates for misalignment between the shaft and housing without causing additional edge pressures on the rolling elements. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rollers with dimensional stability and low friction within the permissible temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees Celsius.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes a tapered bore with a 1:12 taper ratio, allowing the bearing to be mounted directly onto tapered shaft seats or onto cylindrical shafts using shrink sleeves and withdrawal sleeves. The W33 feature comprises a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, which simplifies targeted relubrication. With standard radial bearing clearance and running accuracy to tolerance class P5, this design is suitable for low-vibration industrial applications.
This roller bearing has two symmetrical rows of rollers on a common hollow-spherical outer ring raceway. It dynamically compensates for angular misalignment between the inner and outer rings and can withstand high radial and axial loads. The SKF Explorer design combines standard roller bearing steel with an optimised internal geometry and a robust sheet steel cage.
The bearing has a bore diameter of 140 mm on the inner ring, an outer diameter of 300 mm and a width across flats of 102 mm. The bore is tapered with a taper ratio of 1:12. These standardised key dimensions enable a precise fit when installed in standardised pedestal bearings and machine housings.
The letter K denotes a tapered bore with a pitch ratio of 1:12. This design facilitates fitting onto cylindrical shafts using clamping or withdrawal sleeves, as well as onto shaft journals machined to a direct taper. Furthermore, when sliding the bearing onto the tapered seat, the remaining bearing clearance in the system can be precisely adjusted.
The designation W33 indicates a circumferential groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. Fresh grease or lubricating oil flows directly through this lubrication groove, without any detours, into the interior of the bearing between the two rows of rollers. This ensures an even supply to all rolling elements and simplifies regular maintenance.
Designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees Celsius, the open bearing can withstand even thermally demanding conditions. In practice, the thermal operating limit is essentially determined by the lubricant selected and the sealing of the surrounding housing, as the bearing is operated as an open design without an integrated seal.
The dimensional accuracy of this bearing complies with the PN standard class, whilst its running accuracy corresponds to the tighter P5 tolerance class. This results in lower radial and axial runout deviations of the rings during operation. This characteristic ensures smooth, low-vibration operation in demanding machine drives with high precision requirements.
