The SKF 22320 E self-aligning roller bearing, with dimensions of 100 × 215 × 73 mm, withstands heavy radial loads and compensates for shaft misalignment.
The SKF 22320 E self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. It has a cylindrical bore of 100 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 73 mm. The design is characterised by the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway. This allows the bearing to self-align in the event of shaft deflection. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel in the SKF Explorer design, the open construction withstands operating temperatures from -30 to +200 °C.
This self-aligning roller bearing is particularly suitable for heavy-duty machinery designs subject to high radial forces and shock loads. Typical applications include mounting positions with shaft deflection and misalignment. As the outer ring compensates for angular misalignment, the bearing operates without disruptive edge pressure. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the symmetrical rollers stably through the raceways, enabling the bearing to withstand demanding operating conditions.
When selecting the 22320 E self-aligning roller bearing, dimensional and running characteristics play a key role. The bearing combines standard dimensional accuracy (PN) with increased running accuracy of tolerance class P5. This results in improved shaft concentricity and reduces vibrations during operation. The lubrication groove with holes in the outer ring facilitates relubrication whilst the bearing is installed. As this is an open bearing, you can select the lubricant and external seal to suit your design.
With an internal diameter of 100 mm, an external diameter of 215 mm and a width of 73 mm, the bearing specifies precise mounting dimensions for the shaft and housing. Thanks to its symmetrical design, the bearing can accommodate high radial forces as well as axial loads acting in both directions.
The designation P5 indicates enhanced running accuracy, whilst the dimensional accuracy corresponds to the standard PN class. Compared with the standard tolerance, the P5 class has tighter limits for concentricity. This promotes low-vibration running and smooth operation of the shaft mounted in bearings.
Lubricant is fed directly between the rows of rollers via the lubrication groove with lubrication holes integrated into the outer ring. As the roller bearing is designed as an open unit without sealing washers, the surrounding housing provides both protection against contamination and retention of the lubricant.
The 100Cr6 roller bearing, with a sheet steel cage, is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 °C. The actual usable temperature range in practice depends on the lubricant selected, which must be thermally suited to the operating conditions.
SKF’s Explorer design features optimised internal geometry and refined surfaces on the raceways and rollers. This design reduces friction in the rolling contact and promotes the formation of a lubricating film, which enhances operational reliability under high loads.
The model is designed with standard radial bearing clearance. This bearing clearance is intended for standard fits and typical temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. In the event of significant shaft heating or particularly tight fits, it must be checked whether a different bearing clearance class is required.
