The SKF 22314 EK/C3 self-aligning roller bearing with a tapered bore (70x150x51 mm) automatically compensates for misalignment and can withstand very heavy radial loads.
The SKF 22314 EK/C3 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row, open roller bearing designed for demanding operating conditions. With dimensions of 70 mm bore, 150 mm outer diameter and 51 mm width, the bearing can handle high radial and combined forces. The spherical outer ring raceway allows for angular self-alignment, thereby compensating for shaft deflection during operation without increased edge pressure. The sheet steel cage guides the symmetrical sets of rollers evenly.
This bearing design is preferred for applications where shaft deflection and high shock loads occur. The open design, made from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6), is rated for temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees. Lubricant is fed directly between the rows of rollers via the integrated lubrication groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring. This facilitates targeted relubrication whilst the bearing is in operation.
The suffix ‘EK’ denotes the tapered inner ring bore with a 1:12 taper. This allows mounting directly onto a tapered shaft seat or, using a clamping or withdrawal sleeve, onto cylindrical shafts. In conjunction with the slightly increased radial bearing clearance C3, the required operating clearance is maintained even after radial press-fitting and during operation-induced heating. Furthermore, this design offers increased running accuracy to tolerance class P5 with standard dimensional accuracy PN.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 70 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a total width of 51 mm. These dimensions provide a wide cross-section capable of withstanding high radial and axial loads.
The designation ‘K’ stands for a tapered inner ring bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. This shape allows the radial residual clearance to be precisely adjusted during installation, either using sleeves or directly onto appropriately shaped shaft seats.
A slightly increased radial bearing clearance compensates for the reduced clearance when the bearing is fitted radially onto a tapered seat. Furthermore, C3 provides a safety margin to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed in the event of operational temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
The outer ring has a circumferential groove with several holes. This design allows grease or lubricating oil to be fed through the housing directly into the interior of the rolling elements, which aids the distribution of lubricant across both rows of rollers.
Whilst the external and internal dimensions comply with the standard tolerance class PN, the running accuracy of this bearing meets the tighter P5 class. This means lower radial and axial runout, which contributes to smoother running at higher speeds.
Designed for temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees, this open spherical roller bearing, made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), is suitable for thermally demanding environments. This temperature range must be taken into account when selecting the lubricant and any external seals.
