The SKF 22240 CCK/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing features a 200 mm bore, a tapered seat and C3 clearance for demanding heavy-duty applications.
The SKF 22240 CCK/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing designed for high radial and axial loads in mechanical engineering and plant construction. Thanks to the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, this design automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. The open bearing, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, has main dimensions of 200 × 360 × 98 mm and features a robust sheet steel cage. Operators and maintenance engineers opt for this design when high load-carrying capacities combined with precise running accuracy to Class P5 are required.
This self-aligning roller bearing is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces and simultaneous axial loads in both directions. Typical applications include heavy-duty industrial gearboxes, conveyor systems and large-scale industrial drives. Thanks to its design, the bearing compensates for misalignment between the inner and outer rings without causing impermissible additional stresses. The integrated lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring (W33) allows lubricant to be applied directly between the rows of rollers, which simplifies the relubrication process whilst the plant is in operation.
The designation ‘K’ indicates a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. You can mount the bearing either directly onto a tapered shaft journal or onto cylindrical shafts using a clamping or withdrawal sleeve. The suffix C3 denotes an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance is beneficial, as the bearing clearance is reduced when the bearing is pressed onto the tapered seat. Furthermore, the C3 bearing clearance accommodates thermal expansion within the permissible temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 200 mm, an external diameter of 360 mm and a width of 98 mm. These standardised dimensions allow for a precise fit when installed in standardised housings. Due to its open design without integrated sealing washers, the bearing is intended for use in protected, externally sealed housings.
The designation W33 refers to a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring of the bearing. This arrangement allows for a direct and uniform supply of grease or lubricating oil directly into the interior of the rows of rolling elements. This ensures that the lubricant reaches the contact surfaces between the rollers and raceways, thereby enhancing the operational reliability of the bearing assembly.
A tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 simplifies the precise adjustment of the desired residual radial bearing clearance during installation. Fitting is usually carried out on a clamping sleeve or directly onto tapered shaft seats. Controlled axial movement along the taper causes the inner ring to expand, allowing the bearing clearance to be precisely adjusted to the required operating value.
Bearing clearance class C3 offers greater radial clearance than standard bearing clearance. This is particularly advantageous for bearings with a tapered bore, as the radial clearance is reduced by the press fit during assembly. Furthermore, the C3 clearance provides thermal reserves in the event that temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings during operation.
This SKF rolling bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. The 100Cr6 material and the dimensionally stable sheet steel cage retain their strength properties within this temperature range. When operating close to the upper limit temperature, you should ensure that the external housing seal and the selected lubricant are also specified for these temperatures.
In terms of its main dimensions, the bearing complies with the standard tolerance class PN (normal tolerance). The tighter tolerance class P5 applies to running accuracy. This combination offers high concentricity and low vibration, whilst maintaining standardised mounting dimensions for standard housings and common shaft fits in industrial applications.
