The SKF 22216 E/C3 spherical roller bearing, with dimensions of 80x140x33 mm and a C3 clearance, offers high load-carrying capacity in the face of shaft deflection and misalignment.
The 22216 E/C3 self-aligning roller bearing is designed for demanding mechanical loads in continuous industrial operation. Thanks to its barrel-shaped rollers, this bearing automatically compensates for misalignment between the shaft and the housing. The standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 and the integrated sheet-steel cage ensure smooth running at operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. The open design allows direct access to the lubricant via the lubrication groove in the outer ring.
Design engineers primarily use this self-aligning roller bearing where high radial forces act on rotating shafts and where deflection or misalignment is to be expected. Typical applications include heavy-duty industrial applications where dynamic misalignments between the shaft and housing occur as a result of operation. Thanks to the lubrication groove and the lubrication holes in the outer ring, the rolling bearing can be relubricated directly in the bearing housing with grease or lubricating oil.
The increased radial clearance C3 counteracts stress build-up should components heat up during operation or if there are tight fits against the inner ring. This ensures smooth running even when the shaft expands due to heat. Furthermore, the tolerance class with P5 running accuracy, combined with standard dimensional accuracy PN, contributes to smooth running. When fitting the open bearing, a clean housing seal is recommended to protect against the ingress of dirt.
With a bore of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 140 mm and a width of 33 mm, the roller bearing fits into standardised mounting spaces on the shaft and in the bearing housing. The standardised mounting dimensions allow for precise integration into the respective assembly.
The suffix C3 indicates increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance compensates for expansion when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings, or when tight fits cause the inner ring to expand. This prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed during operation.
Grease or lubricating oil is fed directly between the rollers via a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. As the design is open and has no integrated seals, a housing seal protects the bearing assembly from the ingress of dirt and the escape of lubricant.
Designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees, the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their strength within this range. When selecting the lubricant, care should be taken to ensure that the grease or oil is suitable for the operating temperatures encountered during use.
This combines the standard dimensional accuracy class PN for connection dimensions with the tighter tolerance class P5 for running accuracy. This classification allows for standard housing and shaft fits whilst ensuring increased concentricity during operation.
