The SKF 22211 EK/C3 self-aligning roller bearing, with dimensions of 55x100x25 mm, a tapered bore and C3 clearance, offers high load-carrying capacity under misalignment conditions.
The 22211 EK/C3 self-aligning roller bearing is a double-row roller bearing made from standard rolling-element steel (100Cr6) for demanding industrial applications. The design automatically compensates for angular misalignment between the inner and outer rings and accommodates very heavy radial loads as well as combined axial forces. This open bearing features a robust sheet steel cage and is designed for a wide temperature range from –30 to +200 degrees. The integrated lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring allows the lubricant to be fed directly into the interior.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians use this design primarily in bearing arrangements where shaft deflection or misalignment may occur. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering for shaft bearings subjected to high radial loads. As the bearing has open ends, it can be specifically integrated into enclosed housing designs that utilise an external housing seal. The combination of high load-carrying capacity and angular misalignment compensation ensures continuous rolling of the rolling elements, even under uneven loads.
The suffix ‘EK’ denotes a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. This design facilitates mounting on tapered shaft seats or, with the aid of suitable mounting and withdrawal sleeves, on cylindrical shafts. The slightly increased radial clearance (C3) compensates for the reduction in radial clearance that inevitably occurs when the inner ring is pushed onto the tapered seat. Furthermore, the C3 clearance compensates for operational temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. Precise concentricity is ensured by the increased running accuracy to tolerance class P5, combined with standardised dimensional accuracy PN.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 55 mm, an outer diameter of 100 mm and a width of 25 mm. The inner bore has a taper ratio of 1:12, which must be taken into account when selecting a shaft seat or mounting sleeve.
The letter K stands for the tapered bore with a 1:12 taper. The letter E describes the internal design of the series. The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version, which is important in the case of tight fits and thermal loads.
The bearing has a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes on the outer ring. This arrangement allows grease or lubricating oil to be applied directly between the two rows of rollers. As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, installation requires a lubricant supply to be provided by the customer, as well as housing seals.
This roller bearing, made from 100Cr6 bearing steel and featuring a sheet steel cage, is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. When selecting a lubricant, you should ensure that its thermal specification fully covers the desired operating range of the bearing location.
The dimensional accuracy complies with the standard PN class, whilst the running accuracy is to the tighter P5 tolerance class. This combination ensures precise running of the rolling elements whilst maintaining standardised mounting dimensions on the shaft and housing.
When the tapered inner ring is slid onto the shaft, it expands, thereby reducing the operating clearance. The reduction in radial clearance serves as a check during assembly to ensure a secure fit. This procedure counteracts slippage on the shaft and ensures that the inner ring is held securely in place.
