The SKF 23220 CC/W33 spherical roller bearing, measuring 100 × 180 × 60.3 mm, offers high load-carrying capacity and compensates for misalignment during operation.
The SKF 23220 CC/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is designed as a double-row roller bearing for demanding mechanical loads. It accommodates high radial forces as well as combined axial forces in both directions. It is manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, ensuring dimensional stability over a temperature range of –30 °C to +200 °C. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements between the raceways with minimal vibration. The open design with standard radial clearance allows for the application-specific choice of grease or lubricating oil.
The design is suitable for applications where load-bearing shafts deflect under load or where there are manufacturing-related misalignments between the bearing positions. The hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring allows the inner ring, together with the set of rollers, to be freely adjusted. In this way, the bearing prevents excessive edge stresses on the rolling elements. Typical applications include heavy-duty industrial drives and rotating shaft systems subject to high impact and continuous loads.
The suffix W33 denotes an annular lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This allows lubricant to reach the lubrication point directly between the two rows of rollers, thereby reducing frictional resistance. The tolerance class combines the standard dimensional accuracy PN for mating dimensions with P5 running accuracy for rotating parts. This tighter concentricity reduces concentricity errors and ensures smooth running at higher speeds.
With a 100 mm cylindrical bore and a spherical outer ring raceway, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment of the shaft. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rollers precisely between the raceways. In addition, the W33 feature facilitates relubrication via the lubrication groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 100 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a width of 60.3 mm. It is made from through-hardened standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and has the standard radial clearance.
The designation W33 refers to a lubrication groove running around the outer circumference, featuring lubrication holes. Lubricant enters directly into the interior of the bearing, between the two rows of rollers, via holes in the housing. This promotes even distribution of the lubricant and simplifies routine maintenance.
This combination means that the key dimensions, such as the bore and outer diameter, comply with the standard PN tolerance class, whilst the running accuracy adheres to the tighter P5 tolerance class. This results in reduced radial and axial runout during rotation.
According to the manufacturer’s specifications, the bearing is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 °C to +200 °C. The integrated sheet steel cage and the material structure remain dimensionally stable within this range, provided that the lubricant used is suitable for the respective operating temperature.
Open roller bearings are supplied by the manufacturer without sealing washers and without factory-applied grease. This allows the lubricant to be flexibly tailored to the operating temperature and rotational speed of the specific design. Protection against contamination is provided by the surrounding housing.
