The FAG double-row self-aligning ball bearing 2315 -K-M-C3 (75x160x55 mm) compensates for misalignment and is suitable for operating conditions involving vibrations.
The double-row self-aligning ball bearing 2315 -K-M-C3 from FAG is an open rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel 100Cr6, with the main dimensions of 75 mm bore, 160 mm outer diameter and 55 mm width. Thanks to the common hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring, this bearing accommodates misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. The design combines a tapered bore with a brass cage and increased C3 radial clearance. The component is suitable for an operating temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees Celsius and complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
This self-aligning ball bearing is suitable for designs where elastic shaft deflection occurs or where misalignment between housing seats needs to be compensated for. Typical applications include long shaft runs with separate support housings, as well as drives subject to dynamic vibration loads. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, the lubricant can be freely selected and adapted to the specific application. With a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius, the assembly can withstand thermal stresses, whilst the double-row design reliably absorbs radial forces.
The combination of suffixes indicates specific functional characteristics: the suffix ‘K’ stands for a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12, which allows secure mounting on cylindrical shafts using a clamping or withdrawal sleeve. The solid brass cage (M) guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration and withstands severe vibrations as well as high acceleration forces. The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This additional clearance compensates for the radial constriction of the inner ring when pressed onto the tapered seat, as well as for thermal expansion at higher operating temperatures.
The designation indicates three specific design features of the roller bearing: the ‘K’ refers to the tapered bore with a 1:12 taper for sleeve mounting. The letter M denotes a solid brass cage that is resistant to vibrations. The suffix C3 indicates an increased radial clearance compared with the standard version, to accommodate thermal expansion and fixed bearing seats.
With an internal diameter of 75 mm at the tapered bore, an external diameter of 160 mm and a width across flats of 55 mm, the bearing complies with standardised dimensions. It is a double-row bearing made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The slightly increased radial bearing clearance (C3) counteracts any impermissible reduction in bearing clearance following installation. In the case of bearings with a tapered bore, axial sliding onto a mounting sleeve or a tapered seat causes a measurable narrowing of the inner ring. Furthermore, the increased clearance compensates for temperature-induced expansion between the inner and outer rings during operation at temperatures up to +150 degrees Celsius.
Variants with the designation letter K have a tapered bore with a ratio of 1:12. They are mounted either directly onto a tapered shaft journal or, using a clamping or withdrawal sleeve, onto a cylindrical shaft. When fitted axially, the radial clearance is reduced, which allows the desired bearing clearance to be adjusted during assembly.
As this model is designed as an open roller bearing without sealing washers, the bearing is not pre-lubricated with grease at the factory. Lubrication is provided via the respective housing, either with grease or lubricating oil. Users must provide an external housing seal to keep out dirt particles and prevent lubricant leakage during operation.
The permissible operating temperature range for this bearing is from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. The 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the brass cage retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. In the event of prolonged exposure to high temperatures, care should be taken to ensure that the lubricant used is also specified for this range.
